OK, so my friends and I found this one SUNDAY evening. WHAT A COOL PLACE! (For those familiar with Edmonton, Whyte Ave - "The Thirsty Turtle" occupies what used to be "Syposium") Sunday evenings one may enjoy the comedy stylings of local Edmonton talent! There were some HILARIOUS moments... and some not so! :P Was nice evening anyway (starts at 10:00PM). Friday evenings drink special is highballs on for $1.50! 7:00PM - 10:00PM. They have drink specials nightly. If you plan on returning (and purchasing food), you may buy a Thirsty Turtle Wristband. Cost is $2. The total proceeds go to charity and next time you come in, your food purchases are 25% off. Pretty good deal! I REALLY LIKE THIS PLACE. Both ends of the building are open. You may sit on the balcony overlooking Whyte, OR you may sit in the back balcony and enjoy a little more privacy. Comfortable and inexpensive! I recommend it!
Make sure that you wear clothes. Unasuming entry into a great place .... by kymbanm This is actually more of a Saturday afternoon tip vs. a nightlife tip .... but I suspect that this joint is jumping whenever it is open! This blues club is on the ground floor of the Commercial Hotel and is filled with fun and history. This club has a couple of rooms .. the first room off Whyte has the bar, pool tables, and a few tables for seating. The next room has the stage, dancefloor, and seating/tables. The decor was .... interesting, as were my fellow revelers ...... The real treat is the Saturday afternoon Blues jam! About every 20 mintues or so, a new goups of musicians/vocalists assume the stage and the party begins! The talent here is amazing, as is the energy ... another treat is the smoking area out back in the alley ....... filled with Harley's Galore as their owners/riders are also enjoying the music inside :)

by glicko Whyte Ave... 82 Avenue from roughly the U of A to 104 St.(the CPR tracks). This is the centre of Edmonton's nightlife. Some of Edmonton's best restaurants and most of its best bars are located on Whyte. Its proximity to the U of A and the HI Hostel ensure an eclectic and rowdy crowd. The Old Strat(hcona Hotel): old time hotel beerhall like you'd find in the 'colourful' quarter of any western Canadian city. Caution: the amount of smoke in the air here is probably incredibly toxic, but the beer is cheap, and the patrons are entertaining. The Iron Horse: huge nightclub situated next to the railway line at 104th. Good place to dance yer brains out. ...these two bars are just the extremes of a spectrum of bars on Whyte Ave. Take your pick, you're bound to find one that you like.

Whyte Ave: Filthy McNasty's Brew's and Cues (billiards club) The Billiards Club The Iron Horse O'Byron's anywhere on Whyte Ave Dante's, in the West end past West Edmonton Mall on 170th. It is a good restaurant during the day, hot spot at night. On Whyte Ave, you can expect anything, especially durning the Fringe. I saw a guy walking around with a huge snake wrapped around his neck!

by VTShounen Old Strathcona, as the area is called, is centred around 82 Ave, aka Whyte Avenue. This is the #1 pedestrian area in Edmonton, day and night. During the day, people come here for the cafes and the many unique stores that cater to the New Age vegan group. At night, this is the #1 spot in Edmonton for night life. You'll find almost anything you want, from pubs (O'Byrnes, Elephant & Castle, Sherlock Holmes) to lounges (Savoy, Devlin's) to mainstream bars (Black Dog, Fargo, Iron Horse, Squires) to country (Cook County) to dance clubs (Parliament, Roxy's) to pool halls (The Billiard Club) to comedy clubs (Varscona Theatre). Though Old Strathcona stretches from 109 to 99 Street, the vast majority of the night life is from 105 St to 103 St.
Eclectic mix for bar hopping, and places usually aren't too picky. Be reasonable - a Hawaiian shirt, shorts and flip-flops wouldn't be appropriate. But Edmontonians tend to be bad dressers anyway. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: Around 82 Avenue, between 109 St and 99 St. There are a couple of good places on 103 St north and south of 82 Ave. Located near the University (about a 20 minute walk) it is easily accessible by busOther Contact: www.whyte-avenue.com

by Rice_Paper The Ironhorse is a great place to hang out on the weekends or any other days of the week. During the summer, you should definitely hang out at their patio. The staff are friendly. The staff! The waitresses and bartenders are always helpful in providing recommendations for yummy drinks. My fave is the pornstar (shooter). Some of my friends say it's a girly drink but it's so yummy.
Casual wear is fine but if you wanna dress to impress, that's fine too. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubPhone: (780) 438-1907Directions: 8101 - 103 Street (The old train station off Whyte Avenue)Website: www.theironhorse.ca

by Rice_Paper Nice atmosphere (most peeps are in their 20's or 30's). A great place to hang out with your friends, grab a couple of pints, and chat.
Their dress code's pretty casual. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: 10620 - Whyte Avenue

This is a large, modern, popular pub located on the lively Whyte Avenue. When I was there back in August it was completely packed full of people and they were open well after 2am. They were playing alternative rock and grunge... and it had a very positive, happy-go-lucky vibe. You could hang around the bar, sit in the booths, or mingle around the tables. Note: Apparently Fargo's closed after I visited, and a new bar opened up instead a Canadiana Irish-type pub called "Hudson's".
The atmosphere is casual and they don't inforce any dress code. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingDirections: 10307 Whyte Avenue, Whyte Avenue, EdmontonOther Contact: Remember the drinking age in Alb
