The soothing mineral-rich warm water of Radium Hot Springs, and the stunning Rocky Mountain scenery combine to relax tired muscles and bring peace of mind. The Radium Hot Springs story is as old as the Rocky Mountains. It began with the unleashing of powerful forces that left its tale in heaving, tortured rocks. The earth's crust cracked along a fault, more than two kilometres deep. The shatter zone around the fault lets groundwater seep close to the earth's core heating, pressurizing and returning it to the surface.

  • Edmonton has pretty extreme weather, so be prepared, no matter what season you are here. One saying that is used quite often is "If you don't like the weather in ALberta, wait 5 minutes!"

    SUMMER
Edmonton summers can get quite hot in the daytime, with the average temperature ranging anywhere from 17C to 30C. It is not very humid. Bring anything you like: t-shirts, shorts, jeans, dresses, skirts, any kind of shoes. I usually try to avoid socks in the summer, but that's just me. The evenings can still get a bit chilly, so I would recommend long pants and a sweatshirt.

    WINTER
Our winters can range from mostly mild (0C to -10C) to extremely cold (-30C), so be very well prepared. Wear layers. Have a good warm jacket, gloves, scarf, earmuffs, and warm socks. You may not always need it, but it is good to have.

Don't forget your sunscreen in the summer :)

You will have no probelm finding any type of toiletries and medical supplies, photo equipment, or outdoor gear. There are malls, drug stores, clothing stores and specialty stores everywhere.

Lots of luggages & bags. Remember, this is the largest mall! Alternatively, just one gold/platinum card will do too!

Even during the summer, the nights can get chilly. So always remember to bring some warm clothing. For the winter, bring LOTS of clothing! Edmonton has a dry cold, usually without much wind. Regardless it is a good idea to bring hats, scarves, and gloves during the winter. The key to being comfortable in this kind of climate is to dress in layers - ie. many layers of thinner clothing instead of 2 or 3 layers of thick clothing. It makes a world of difference!

As mentioned, it gets quite chilly at nigth even during the summer, so if you plan on staying out at night, then be sure to bring at least a sweater, and if plan on camping in the area, then a warm sleeping bag. During the summer, precipitation usually comes in the form of heavy rain from thunderclouds that are very short in duration. Hail is fairly common, and tornados, though rare, do occur. Edmonton is quite dry and we don't usually get much rain during the summer. But don't count on it! In a city where it can snow in June and a warm snow-less Christmas in the same year, the words 'average' and 'normal' can at best only mean 'very rough guideline'.

If you wanna shop, don't bring much (clothes wise) cause you'll prolly trek on down to WEM and go on a shopping spree. Leave some space in your luggage for stuff that you're prolly gonna buy and bring back to your city/state/country when you're here in Edm.

The weather condition in the Prairies can be rather unpredictable. I mean, there was this one time when it snowed in JUNE! I mean, JUNE! But generally, the summers are great (bring shorts, sandals, skeeters repellent, etc) and the winter are cold (a nice warm jacket, scarf, toque, mitts). See pic. HEHEHHE

You can pretty much buy anything here in Edmonton so if you forget to bring something, no worries. Nothing a stop to Superstore or Costco or Save-On can't fix.

Edmonton is the City of Champions.
World-class sporting events are nothing new to Edmonton, which played host to the 1978 Commonwealth Games, the 1983 World University Games, 1996 Firefighter Games, 1996 World Figure Skating Championships, the 1984 and 1987 Grey Cup games, the 1999 Labatt Brier and the 2001 IAAF World Championships. Edmonton's storied sports history dates back to its earliest days. In 1913 John Hougan shattered the Canadian ski jump record with a leap of 19 feet off Connor's Hill. In 1948 the Edmonton Flyers brought the city its first major hockey title, winning the Allan Cup as national senior champions. Four years later the Edmonton Waterloo Mercurys were crowned Olympic hockey champions in Oslo, Norway, and in 1954 the Edmonton Eskimos won the first of three straight Grey Cups in the Canadian Football League. The Eskimos built another dynasty between 1978-82, winning the Grey Cup every season.
Major league hockey arrived in Edmonton in 1972 when the Alberta Oilers became charter members in the World Hockey Association (WHA). The team was re-christened 'Edmonton' Oilers the following season, and in 1978 the club purchased teenage superstar Wayne Gretzky from the Indianapolis Racers. Led by Gretzky, the Oilers won four Stanley Cup championships between 1984 and 1988, then again in 1990 two years after Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. The decade of the 90s saw more sporting glory for Edmonton, with the Trappers winning back-to-back Pacific Coast League baseball championships in 1996 and 1997 and bobsleigher Pierre Leuders bringing home Olympic gold from Nagano, Japan, in 1998.

Edmonton is the first North American city to host the IAAF World Championships In Athletics. Over 3,000 athletes, coaches and officials called Edmonton home for 10 days in August 2001, while the drama of the third largest sporting event in the world, behind the World Cup of Soccer and the Summer Olympics, was played out. Organizers estimated that four billion people watched the 10-day event.

  • Just your typical style luggage is recommended if your not planning on doing a lot of shopping there.

Winter Apparel (Winter Coats, Sweaters, etc.) is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for Winter Travel.

For Spring/Fall Travel, check ahead for latest whether conditions. Sometimes its quite cold in the spring and fall and you may even need your winter jacket!

For Summer, pack a light coat, the nights can get quite chilly.

MONEY! $$$. You'll need lots of it if you plan to go shopping. Edmonton is a mall-lovers dream.
