    Elk Island is a beautiful National Park. It's located 35 kms east of Edmonton.

    There is so much to do there wildlife viewing, hiking & walking, recreation, camping, picnicking. activities for children, park programs, fall activities, winter adventures, geocaching, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and golfing.

    Hours of Operation

    The park is open year-round. However, many services and facilities are open only during the summer season. The administration office is open from 8:00 a.m. to noon, 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. year-round, Monday to Friday, closed statutory holidays.. The campgrounds are only open from May until October.

    Safety
    Bison and elk are wild animals. Even though they look docile they can be dangerous and unpredictable. Approaching wildlife is unlawful and puts you and others at risk.
    Keep at least 30 metres (100 ft) away from large animals.
    Do no approach the bison or elk while hiking.
    Bulls can be aggressive during mating season.

    Elk Island National Park is located less than an hour away from Edmonton so if you don't have enough time to make it to Jasper, this great park is the ideal place to go for hiking, canoeing, picnicking or camping. Also, you can be sure that some bison, wood bison, moose, deer and elk specimens will greet you right at the park's entrance!
