Close to Downtown Edmonton, you may find the Muttart Conservatory in Edmonton's River Valley.

"The Pyramid's" are BEAUTIFUL! Here you may enjoy many different plant species (EVEN IN THE WINTER) from three different temperate zones. There is also a "Show Pyramid" that is used for special exhibits.

If you don't want to go for the plants, there is also a lovely cafe there. Mid-priced. Yet, very good food, service, and ambiance. (PLUS - you don't have to pay if you're only going for coffee.)

ONE MORE THING - there is also a beautiful gift shop on-site. Here you may buy MANY things, including houseplants that are grown at the Muttart. These are reasonably priced and of excellent quality.

    OK - LAST THING!
In the spring, the Muttart has a plant sale for garden plants. This usually runs one weekend. The plants are mid-priced and again, of excellent quality. Contact the Conservatory for dates.

    Hawrelak Park - the Chalet.

Named after Edmonton's former Mayor, William Hawrelak - Hawrelak Park is BEAUTIFUL!
There are many things to do in any season.
In the summer you may enjoy paddle boating, many festivals, relaxing on the grass, enjoying a picnic, free weekly symphony performances, feeding the birds.... and MUCH MORE!
In the winter, the lake is shoveled for your skating enjoyment! You could still enjoy a winter picnic if you wish.... or just go for a walk. There are winter festivals, as well.

It's a beautiful escape from the city - in the middle of the city!

To see some beautiful views, check out a 360 virtual tour --> HERE!!

    The Odyssium.

Formerly: "The Space Sciences Centre," one of Northern Alberta's Premier Attractions.

    THIS PLACE IS SO COOL!!
The Odyssium is operated by the Edmonton Space and Science Foundation. There are SO many amazing things to see and learn! The site has several large galleries featuring different exhibits and displays. Not only are these very interesting - they are SO FUN! There are many interactive displays that enrich the experience!
Please check out the "About Us" section on the website - VERY INTERESTING!
    COST:
General Admission is $9.95 for adults (and it goes down from there).

You will also want to see a movie at the Imax Theatre (there are other theatres as well). The shows are spectacular! They are "documentaries." However, they are very entertaining and can be exciting. The Imax movies are AWESOME!
    COST:
Imax Admission is $15.95 for adults(and it goes down from there).

Attached to the Odyssium - you may also want to visit the Observatory.

Take a Walk Through the Legislative Grounds

by Jareotto Updated Oct 6, 2005 29 reviews

    The Alberta Centennial.

This is where "it" all goes down. The Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Meetings of Parliament.... Many other things, I'm sure! :P
What I'm recommending here, though, is to GO FOR A WALK around the building!
The grounds are beautifully landscaped. (Even winter has it's beauty - BE SURE THAT YOU BUNDLE UP! It gets pretty cold!)
This is a wonderful spot on a hot summer day. You may splash around in the wading pools, lie in the grass, walk along the flowered and shaded paths.

Certain days of the year, there are events happening here. I.e. Canada Day - there is usually much happening here - music and fireworks.

If you come during the day, there is an interpretive center above ground and in the underground pedways (yes, there are underground pedways!). VERY INTERESTING! Lots to see and books, brochures, etc with information about activities and sites in and around Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada.

If you're able to - I would also check out the Leg itself. There is much history and many interesting facts to be learned here. There's a spot that you stand in and if sounds as if you're under a waterfall (there's a water feature in the building and the echos are "just right" in that spot!).

I thoroughly recommend checking this out!
You'll have to when you see the photos attached to this tip! Enjoy!

    view of Muttart from LaRonde

I didn't make it to the conservatory, but as I wandered town I did notice icon style directional signage ....... the symbol for the Muttart is a group of triagles or pyramids ... makes sense once you actually SEE the conservatory!

I'm not a garden person, so this was not on my 'to do' list ... but the view I got of this place from LaRonde during my brunch made me reconsider this choice ... unfortunately, my time in Edmonton was up. *sigh* Perhaps NEXT time!
