    Jasper Information Centre

Favorite thing: Located On the Main Street in Jasper , the JASPER INFORMATION CENTERshould be your first stop to get useful information about the town and surrounding parks. Run by the friendly staff of Parks Canada, they will help you find accommodation and give advice on what to do and see in the area.

    Jasper information centre

Favorite thing: This beautiful building was build in 1914 and is located on the main road in Jasper .
The building used to house the Parks Superintendent and the Parks administration
offices .This building also housed a Fish hatchery and a Library. The house was build out of Rocks and Logs and it really fits in with the surroundings, and it also became a model for other Parks because of its rustic design.

    Nature calls building

Favorite thing: In the centre of the town of Jasper is this
    lovely pink stone building.
This building was the origional Information
Centre building ,and it was built in 1949 ,and it was restored in 1994 by the Friends of Jasper National Park. This building is now the office of the Friends of Jasper national Park, and it is also a public washroom ,so the name Nature calls is very appropiate.

    Jasper Townsite

Favorite thing: Jasper's small-town feel comes as a relief after the razzmatazz of Banff: its streets still have the windswept, open look of a frontier town, and though the mountains don't ring it with quite the same majesty as Banff, you'll probably feel the town better suits its wild surroundings. Apart from the new Yellowhead Museum at 400 Pyramid Rd, with its fur trade and railroad displays (summer daily 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; $2.50) and a cable-car, nothing here even pretends to be a tourist attraction; this is a place to sleep, eat and stock up.
Though Jasper doesn't get as crowded as Banff, it still receives around two million visitors annually, so accommodation, especially in summer, can be tight. You are also especially stuck if you don't have a vehicle; trailheads and the best scenery are a long way from downtown. Bikes can be rented at several places, however, and intermittent shuttle services can run you out of town to Maligne Lake and some of the more obvious attractions.

    Jasper Townsite

    Jasper townsite

Favorite thing: I like Jasper townsite. It has a relaxed atmosphere that attracts certain kind of people to move here and stay. Lots of the locals are from elsewhere. I spoke to some of them in the mountains and on the cruise -- some were here for the outdoors, some for the scenery, some just to stay away from cities.

Fondest memory: In the summer the town gets touristy. It has its share of souvernir shops, restaurants and bars, but not as bad as Banff. Shown in the photo is the grass area in front of Jasper Information Centre. Often you see young people gather on the grass playing guitar and singing. Very free spirit.

    The town of Jasper

    Jasper

Favorite thing: The weather was changeable. When we came back to the town of Jasper, it looked like rain but it didn't while we were there. Japer is small town and not many places to see.
