The boat trip to Spirit Island taked 90 minutes of your time - time well spent.
The guide was great giving lots of information - even cracking a joke or two regarding the short history compared with the UK.
Only regret is you get such a short time off the boat to view the spectacular scenery - ah well time is money!!
If you find lt cold here - like me - you can pop to the shop & buy an extra fleece - then have a hot chocolate to warm yourself up before the boat trip

Take a look at Jasper Train Station. Great interpertive display detailing the history of rail travel.
Then step outside & see the great trains that trundle through the rockies & beyond. The train has a huge observation deck for great sightseeing through this marvelous & diverse country.

I got to Jasper in an auto. To begin seeing the Icefields Parkway (Hwy 93) by car is the most convenient. If you want to stop to take pics, you can. If you want to stop to hike, you can. If you want to stop to camp, you can, etc.

You do not want to drive fast through Jasper National Park. Mainly so that you can enjoy the awe inspiring mountain scenery, but also in order to keep an eye out for wildlife and the traffic jams they may cause.
If you see a car or cars stopped on the road, there is a good chance that they have spotted a bear, moose, coyote, elk or mountain goats on or at the side of the road. Approach slowly and get you cameras ready, but please stay in your vehicle. Invest in a zoom lens, it is worth your safety.

We flew into and out of Calgary by Air Canada. I had pre-booked a rental car and paid a very modest amount for unlimited mileage.
The highway system is excellent. During the Spring of the year, the peak tourist season has not started so the highways through the Rockies are not heavily travelled.

We hired a car in Calgary with good rates from Hyatt - but next time is my Son & his family come along we would consider hiring a motorhome.

We were lucky to fly on such a clear day & saw the beautiful Baffin Islands in North East Canada a very relaxing time just looking out the window at the wonderous place.

We didn't do this trip but you can view the Ice fields & glaciers by helicopter - I think the price was 199 canadian dollars per person.
Saw them perfectly well from the ground.

If you are going to one of the golf resorts in Lake Louise or Jasper the bus will transport you to your luxury accommodation.
I loved the picture detail on these tour buses.
