Calgary Flames Flag at the Office.
  • Tip Rating:
  • Baker Creek Resort is about 2 hours drive from Calgary. The N.H.L.Hockey team in Calgary, The Flames is doing exceptionally well in the Hockey Playoffs, having reached the Stanley Cup Final.

What better way to show your support than to fly the Flames Flag at the entrance to the Resort.

Even the roof of the Building matches the red in the flag.

I am sure all Calgary is rooting for the Flames to win this year _and next year!!!!

    Go Flames Go!!!

    Viewing place for most tourists.
  • Tip Rating:
  • It seems that most tourists visiting Lake Louise arrive at this point, which is close to the main parking area, stop in awe and point and click their cameras. Then leave.

They do not consider walking around the lake or looking at the Chateau.

Only a few do something more strenuous and walk around the lake or climb a rock face or go to the Lake Agnes Tea House.

How to avoid all the other cameras.
  • Tip Rating:
  • I came across this couple having a photo session at the edge of Lake Louise, with all the other photographers to the left of the photo. Those other photographers were taking photos of the couple with a view of the lake and the glaciers behind the couple.

Included with the regular cameras were two large video cameras, so I got the impression that it was a photo shoot for a magazine. There were no crowds of guests at the scene, a Japanese tour leader possibly but definitely no guests.

    Protect the environment
Please remember not to litter in the Park. It is immacualte for a reason. The Canadians in the area sacrifice lots to keep everything pristine so that people like us can enjoy it. They are very concerned about the Park and will not allow builders to take over the area. It is rare that you see a house, mostly cabins for rent or Hotels.

Be aware of their treasured wildlife. I have depicted the most popular wildlife in the following subjects with the words describing their heritage taken from the Chateau Lake Louise grounds.

Here we celebrate the remarkable life in freshwater ecosystems of Banff National Park. At one time, park lakes and streams were stocked with non native fish. This disrupted the balance of life forms in the aquatic ecosystem and diminished the population of native fish, including the cutthroat trout.

By protecting the cutthroat trout we have learned lessons about restoring native species and their contribution to larger ecosystem.

    Eagles
In the summer, golden eagles soar over Lake Louise- symbols of the expansiveness of this Central Rockies ecosystem. The eagles that summer here don’t migrate great distances. However, each spring and fall al least 6,000 eagles pass through Banff and Jasper National Parks, They are migrating between breeding territories in the north and winter habitat in the western plains from southern Alberta to northern Mexico.

In the life of the eagle, geographic borders do not exist. To protect this mountain ecosystem, we need to take our direction from the eagle and manage beyond the boundaries of the national parks.

    Wolves
The sensitive relationship between people and wildlife is apparent in the story of the wolf and the Rocky Mountains. Historically, wolves were viewed as both a threat and a commodity and were poisoned and hunted. Once common, they were almost gone from the Bow River Valley by the 1950’s

Over time, our approaches to wildlife and our perceptions of wolves have evolved. Now we understand that wolves are a vital part of an interconnected ecosystem. They have moved back into the Banff National Park and Lake Louise is part of their wide ranging territory
