Lake Louise is a glacial lake situated in Banff National Park. The lake is named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848-1939) who was related to Queen Victoria and the wife of Canada's Govenor General, Marquee of Lorne (Reigned from 1878-1883).

It's renowned for its emerald and turqoise colours with which comes the glaciers behind the lake. Mount Victoria compliments the lake and makes the view a stunning one to remember. Lake Louise is synonymous for the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise which is an expensive and luxourious resort hotel. Visitors are welcome to have a look around the hotel lobby.

Around Lake Louise, you can hire a canoe or hike on one of the many trails that are around the lake including up to Lakes Mirror and Agnes.

After the hike to either the end of the lake or the Plain of the 6 galciers, this is the view that comes at you all along the path.

On a calm day the reflection of the Chateau in the lake is a photographer's delight.

The colour of the water in the lake also generates some enthusiasm from the viewer.

Behind the Chateau across the valley are the ski slopes on Lake Louise Ski resort

Obviously the main reason for visiting Lake Louise is to see the lake - and it is amazing. Clear blue waters, mountains all around, some great walks. I had great weather when I was there, clear blue skies, so the photos were brilliant.

A definate must do, your mouth will be on the floor after seeing the lake!

Just watch out for the huge amount of tourists obviously, they can spoil it. Also the Chateau Lake Louise is a complete eyesore in an otherwise postcard-like environment

Lake Louise in the afternoon

If you really want to enjoy the vista on Lake Louise, go there early in the morning.
There are few tourists. And the light is marvelous ! The good time to take pictures from the lake and the surrounding mountains !

Compare with my other tip and the picture taken in the early morning.

Ice and snow break away from a Glacier.

Ice /snow avalanche.

The view shows a small avalanche falling from a Glacier. When large chunks of ice and snow break away the sound can be heard by the visitors outside the Chateau Lake Louise a few kilometers away.

This view is in the general direction of Mt Lefroy and the Upper and Lower Lefroy Glaciers. Both are to the left of the Victoria Glaciers, visible on the slopes of Mt Victoria from Chateau Lake Louise.

Mt Victoria is the solid wall at the far end of the lake.

Lake Agnes above the tree line.

These two mountains are on the right of the Lake Louise as you walk west along the path to the roght of the Lake.

The mountain on the left of the lake is Fairview Mountain, below Fairview are the canoes for rent and great for a tour of the lake .

Chateauwith the Beehive behind.

The new tower at the Chateau Lake Louise is seen in front of the general area where the two beehives, the Little Beehive and the Big Beehive are located. Lake Agnes lies between the two and is the place to hike to for a light lunch after you have climbed to the lake.

Every Tourists view point at L Louise.

Perfect views at L Louise.

The Parking lot is directly behind the photographer and this is the first place many visitors reach. It is a perfect spot to take photos especially in the morning. '' here is Kathleen in the foregorund, with Lake Louise in the middle distance and way in the background is Victoria Glacier.

then many tourists and visitors turn round and go back to their bus or car and they have seen L Louise. For the traveller it is time to move to the right and follow the path by the lake in front of the Chateau. Go for a walk alongside the lake, go for a climb to the Lake Agnes tea room, It is way up there, see next photo.
