The one thing that I personally really enjoy here in Red Deer is the Highland Games. They are Scottish games that happen once a year and showcase things like highland dancing, sheepdog competitions, and those strong man events(yawwwnn) and of course bagpiping. I am telling you though, the thing to see is the trail system in this city, it is very pretty.

The city of Calgary is a short drive south of Red Deer on the highway. Calgary is the largest city in the province of Alberta. For more information check out my Calgary page.

The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller, Alberta is quite possibly the most impressive museum of its type in the world. The surrounding eroded landscapes that you see in this photo are known as the badlands. Many dinosaur fossils have been found here, and palaeontologists continue to discover ancient fossils in these regions to this day. For more information, see my Calgary page.

It's not really off the beatan path, but a definate trip to take is to Lake Louise. From there you can tour the grand Chateau Lake Louise, and take a horse drawn carriage ride around the lake. In the winter, along with the previous activities, you can ice skate and build snow castles out in the backyard of the Chateau. If you're in the area and have a car, make a run down to the Bow glacier. It's very large!
