In the past Canada Day didn't really do anything for me. It wasn't special, not like Christmas, Easter etc. When we moved here that all changed!!!
Canada Day here is a GREAT family celebration. The Chamber of Commerce(Ali) puts it on and they do a bang up job.
They start off with a parade which is pretty good, they throw out prizes like big chocolate bars and smarties, pencils, flags, good candies-my kids left with an actual full grocery bag of prizes that was thrown out from the floats. Then a pancake breakfast(FREE FOR ALL!), then they have games and contests all day-potatoe sack, three legged race, egg carry, (for both adults and kids)(I beat my husband in the potatoe sack!!!), talent contest, pie eating contest, pie throwing, dunk tank, a big inflatable thing for kids to jump in, duck races and a bbq with burgers and hotdogs all day which is also FREE, everything is free, no charge for any of the things! Then they have the strong man/woman contest which is great fun, and a mini kids strong man contest. Then they have a famliy dance and to top the night off at 11 pm they have a really GREAT fireworks! Honestly, we have friends that move up here for work from Saskatoon, and they said this was unbelievable!!!

Address: Silver Birch Golf Club - Fox Creek
This is the local watering hole. Nothing fancy. Remember, this is a total oil town and this is the place the riggers go to during their work in Fox Creek.
Ali - the manager/bartender-she's tough(she has to be) and all the riggers respect her(she gives them no choice)!
On Friday and Saturdays they have a DJ that will play anything from Shania Twain to Metallica to Shaggy.
If you are a single woman(you don't have to be good looking, or even single-just willing)- you will have your choice of almost any guy in the bar(remember-1/2 of them have been in the bush for a few weeks;)
Really-everyone is pretty good and they have about 5 different shots for $2 everday all day!
They are also starting theme nights there-ie-Cowboy Days-they are bringing in a mechanical bull, sexy dance contest and line dancing. they will also be having Mexican nights-anything to forget about the long cold winter.
Dress Code: Coveralls with a splash of Diesel fuel cologne and you are good to go!
Seriously-anything goes-people wear coveralls coming in off the rigs to casually nice wear!

Getting around Fox Creek.
Most people here own big trucks that are probably worth more than most peoples homes. And they drive everywhere with them. Hell, my husband drives to our neighbors!
And the second mode of transport-Quads and snowmobiles-
Summer-people use their quads to get around and in the winter the snowmobile is the choice of vehicle

Fox Creek is so diverse-everyone comes from somewhere-most people come here, they are not born here.
The main places are-East Coast(a whole lot of Newfies-great people!!) and Saskatchewan-we have a ton of people from Saskatchewan(former farmers, I'm one). Yeah, we're great people to!

Hockey is a big sport here both for woman and kids. Not so big for men since most of them are hard at work on the rigs during the winter.
Curling is very big here and they have a great curling facility!!
Golf is HUGE. Almost everyone has a golf membership here-only $500.00 for a family membership!
Ball hockey during the summer is huge for the men(slow time for riggers)
