A pretty seaside community located in a narrow inlet and surrounded by smooth pebble beaches,Maple Bay is one of the finest natural harbours on Vancouver Island, and bustles with marine activity all year round. This sheltered haven is situated halfway up Sansum Narrows and seperates Vancouver Island from Saltzspring Island, the largest and nearest of the Southern Gulf Islands. The bay is popular with Kayakers,Sailing boats, swimmers and divers and has a reputation for being one of the best diving spots in North America.Fishing is very popular here too as there are excellent points to fish for Sea Bass and Salmon. The road behind the bay has quaint little shops and cafes and even the odd pub so theres plenty here to see and do.Duncan is only ten minutes drive west of Maple Bay.

This Mountain towers over the community of Duncan,it is easily identified by the two humps sitting at the peak of the summit. The Mountain is a wilderness destination popular for many outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, hand gliding and sightseeing. There are a number of routes that lead up the mountain. Most of the routes are single track trails. The main route leading to the top is an old access gravel road.We drove half way up the mountain until the route got to narrow for a vechile then carried on to the summit by foot which took mabye fifteen to twenty minutes. At the top the views over nearby Duncan and the rest of the Cowichan Valley are stunning on a clear day which we were lucky to have. There is a war memorial at the summit dedicated to the fallen in World War Two.

The name Provost is French and is pronounced 'Provou'.

    Streets of Duncan

The streets of Duncan are worth a stroll as there are lots of shops and restaurants. On the day when we were there all the town's shops and restaurants had an outdoor stand in front of their properties. It was pretty festive that day as there were also lots of fun activities for kids and the whole family.
