We had breakfast at ABC in Golden before heading to Banff. The food was good, but the service was very slow and infrequent eventhough the restaurant was not very busy.
Still worth it for decent food at reasonable prices. I would return to this restaurant in Golden.
Favorite Dish: I had bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and pancakes. Everyone else basically had the same thing.
I read some reviews of this place after going there. Many commented that the service was sub par and that the food was that of a greasy truck stop. I have no idea what those people were talking about. Our service what quite nice and prompt. The restaurant is a diner, so people should know what they are getting... its good food, but diner food.
The diner is set as a '50s diner. There's lots of neon lights, old posters, the sparkly red vinyl seat covers, etc. The decorations may be a bit heavy on Elvis.
Favorite Dish: The milk shakes are awesome! Done the original way, nice and thick as very rich.
The fisherman's platter is massive, don't try it unless you have an appetite.
The chalkboard specials are a good bet too, like the stuffed chicken.
We dined at The Turning Point Restaurant when we stayed in Golden for one night on our way through from while driving from Banff to Vancouver. It was early evening on a week night in early May so the place was pretty quiet. The menu is very extensive, to say the least, and has something to suit all tastes. I can't remember exactly what we had but I know that nothing went to waste and we were all pleased with our choices. The wine was also good.
Favorite Dish: Prices are reasonable and service was just right. As it was quiet our waiter stood and chatted with us for some time and was happy to answer our questions about Golden and the area in general. An enjoyable experience.
Tricky Dicky rating - 8/10.
We didn't actually eat here but just stopped off for a quick drink. The restaurant is very nice inside - much better than it looks from outside!!! The menu was varied and interesting but I seem to remember that it was a little expensive so maybe somewhere for a special treat. Our drinks were a bit pricey as well. We ended up eating at The Turning Point restaurant.
Very nice atmosphere with a terrace overlooking the river and the surrounding mountains. Furthermore, very nice staff.
