Located north in Mission, near the border with Maple Ridge and the hydro electric dam, is Hayward Lake. It's our favourite place to escape to on hot summer days, as it doesn't seem to get quite as busy as other beaches in the area, and has a nice sandy beach for little one's to play on. The water is cool and the scenery is beautiful. We've also noticed that the temperatures is a tad cooler here as there is so much greenery in the area - it really has become our oasis.
We love to pack a little picnic lunch, water and healthy snacks and enjoy the day playing in the water and sand and taking in the fresh air.
If you plan on visiting try to arrive as early as possible to ensure you can get a good parking spot and a prime spot on the beach. There are geese in the area, so you'll have to be careful of goose poop, but other than that - the area is perfect!

If you are in or around Mission during the summer months, the Mission Farmer's Market is always worth a visit! Taking place every Saturday from 9am - 1pm in the back of the library parking lot you will find lots of wonderful things! Fresh produce, lovely preserves, locally made goods (including my favourite soap and shea butter lotions), entertainment, crafts and face painting for the little one's and lovely treats to snack on.

Heritage Park is such a great space in Mission. The park is huge so it's perfect to go out for a stroll with the little one's or furry friends. There is also a big sandbox with lots of toys, which our daughter is a huge fan of! In the summer it's a great spot for all of the outdoor events they have. Festivals and outdoor concerts are only some of the events that happen here! It's just a great place to enjoy the gorgeous weather and some views of the Fraser River and Fraser Valley. It's one of my favourite places to visit with our little girl on a beautiful day. I grab a coffee at The Blackberry Kitchen and watch her play away in the sandbox!

Rocko's is your typical diner, with that 50's type of vibe. Red booths, chrome accents and a friendly comfortable atmosphere. It's the place you'll go if you're looking for that greasy spoon breakfast, a quick lunch or a late night bite after you're out for drinks. It's open 24 hours a day, always serving breakfast and perfect for the whole family.

Favorite Dish: My husband visited twice before I ever went, but we've both been happy with our experiences here. My only visit was for a late dinner on a hot summer evening when we didn't want to cook. I wasn't overly hungry, so went for breakfast with poached eggs, toast, ham and hash browns. Everything was cooked perfectly and I felt completely satisfied when we left!

The Blackberry Kitchen is small and friendly with a fantastic view overlooking the Fraser Valley. It's hard to miss when you arrive at the park, as it's the large cottage on the south side of the park. The interior is small and cozy and the staff are always so friendly. It doesn't matter what time of day you go, you will find something on the menu for everyone and every budget!

Favorite Dish: The salads and sandwiches are always fresh and a great choice for lunch! I will usually just pop in and grab a coffee to go if I'm bringing my daughter to play in the sandbox. You really can't go wrong with any of the items that they offer!

English Tarts is exactly the type of gem that a small town like Mission needs. If you are in the area, this is the place to stop for a little baked goodie, a yummy lunch or even for afternoon tea! The food is fresh daily and their baked goods and fresh bread are fantastic! They have a great selection of loose leaf teas that are made locally and the whole experience makes for a really lovely afternoon! I visited here with my two-year old and even she loved everything that came out - her favourite being the fresh baked bread.

The atmosphere is so quaint and the place is filled with lovely antique furniture pieces. It's comfy and cozy and the ladies who work there are the friendliest around! If you find yourself in Mission and are looking for a good bite, you'll need to stop in here! You won't regret it!
