Canadian 2-for-1 Pizza: Fresh, fresh, fresh!

    by Camping_Girl Written Sep 19, 2008

This is strictly a pick up or deliver place, but their pizzas are just so good I had to mention it! This is a chain restaurant and I believe it's unique to BC. We have eaten at the one in Cranbrook, BC before and enjoyed the food there every bit as much.

The pizzas from Canadian 2-for-1 are just so fresh. The sauce is tasty and the topping choices are incredible. They have everything, and I mean everything! to choose from - meats, chicken, shrimp, oysters, clams, anchovies, hot peppers, spinach, garlic, veggies, you name it, they've probably got it.

They also make pastas, chicken, ribs, wings, salads and various breads, to round out your meal. And everything is 2-for-1 pricing.

Favorite Dish: I forget the name of the pizza that I like (maybe chicken ranch?), but it has roasted chicken, fresh tomatoes, bacon, green peppers, and onion on it. It is *so* delicious!

The Royal on Baker: Surprisingly Good!

    by Camping_Girl Written Sep 19, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Royal is a really rockin hotspot in Nelson during the evenings, especially on the weekends. But if you go there during the day, it's nice and quiet. And the food here is really good! This is typical bar food, but it is well-made and freshly prepared.

They also carry all of the beers on tap from the local Nelson Brewing Co. Kiki was kind enough to give us a sample of each of them, the first time we were in there. It helped us decide which one we wanted to order, and was most appreciated. (That dark one was just foul!)

We always have a lot of fun at The Royal. This is another biker-friendly spot, but don't let that deter you non-riders from checking it out too.

Favorite Dish: The chicken burger - thinly pounded chicken breast, breaded and cooked till brown and crisp, then served on a bun with lettuce and sauce. There were also plenty of home-made fries on the side, but the burger was a meal in itself!

Finley's Irish Bar & Grill: Great Pub Food

    by Camping_Girl Written Sep 19, 2008

Finley's is a large pub, with plenty of cold beer on tap, as well as any other type of liquid refreshment you might desire. They have pool tables in a private room, and they have a huge patio at the back of the building that overlooks the lake. This is one of my favorite spots in Nelson! The patio is heated and there is a tv out here as well. It's also a good place to relax and chat with some of the friendly locals.

We go to Finley's often, and the food has always been great.

Favorite Dish: The potato skins are awesome! So is the Philly Cheesesteak. mmmmmmm.......

    DJ's Family Restaurant: Best Breakfast!!

    by Camping_Girl Written Sep 19, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I have only ever been to DJ's for breakfast, but I have been there several times. The food and service are always amazing. And the portions are huge! Everything is home-made and so tasty.

They also serve lunch and dinner. There is an outdoor patio, where you can enjoy the sun and people-watch while you enjoy your meal. They are licenced as well.

Oh! And they are also biker friendly, which is an added plus in my books.

Favorite Dish: Any breakfast dish I have ever had here - the Eggs Benny is to die for!!!

Delicious mediterranean food: Main Street Diner

    by Camping_Girl Updated Jun 24, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Main Street Diner serves up delicious freshly prepared food, many of their menu selections are Greek cuisine, but they also have outstanding diner choices - fish and chips, burgers and sandwiches and wraps.

I have eaten here several times and the food never fails to please. One of my favorite menu items are the nacho fries - hand cut french fries, topped with banana peppers, tomatoes, onion and cheese then baked in the oven - yum!

They have a number of vegan dishes as well.

The outdoor patio is a nice spot to rest your tired legs after a full day of shopping. They are licenced as well.

    Mazatlán: Mexinelson...

by glicko Written Jul 24, 2003

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Mazatln and neighbours, Nelson, BC

Run by a Mexican family and fueled by some of BC's fine produce, there are some tasty foods on the menu. The patio is just the place to sit and have a beer or their spectacular margaritas. The staff are friendly and down-to-earth in the true Nelson tradition.

Favorite Dish: Tacos de pescado...CDN$11 for a plate of delicious food that will cause a loosening of the belt. Sublime. Fried fish, fresh tortillas, salsa verde, cabbage, fresh tomatoes, queso fresco, and black beans and rice. Enough food to slake the appetite of a hungry teamster.

Redfish Grill: The Best of Baker Street

by glicko Updated Jul 14, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    The Redfish Grill, Nelson, BC

The Redfish Grill is the epitome of Nelson dining. Definitely a strong hippy, mountainfolk...a Kootenay theme. Innovative Indian fusion dinners, a large vegetarian-vegan menu, but also breakfasts fit for a lumbjack. Of course, the Nelson Brewing Company's ales are on tap and the Oso Negro coffee is forever brewing. Breakfast on their sidewalk patio is highly recommended. Service is relaxed and very friendly. Inside the restaurant there is a lounge with couches for those who enjoy a relaxing drink with some friends. The walls are bedecked with hand-painted, slightly-kitschy murals.

Favorite Dish: A breakfast fit for a sasquatch, yeti, Homer Simpson, or other large hominid. The "Big Shark" is an exercise in gluttony. Two buckwheat pancakes 10 inches in diameter by 3/4 inch thick, two slices of bacon, three sausage links, three large eggs, a pile of hashbrowns and several pieces of buttered toast. It's futile to think an average human stomach can process this much protein, fat and carbohydrate in one sitting. Price: $7.95.
