Train to McLean's Mill
McLean's Mill is a national historic site and a busy place in the summer months and on other special occasions. More information is forthcoming. The train is a big hit with tourists and locals alike. It travels from the station in downtown Port Alberni (near Harbour Quay) through South and North Port Alberni and out into the rural part of the Valley. The tourist will see farms, a wine estate and get a feel for the topography of the Alberni Valley. It is a fun ride and the kids really like it. It ends at the Mill,
For information ask at the tourist bureau for times that the train runs. This site will give you all of the information you need and will probably whet your appetite for this great experience,

Transportation to Port Alberni
Tofino Bus Lines
The Tofino Bus Lines offer an excellent bus service from Nanaimo (where you would exit the B.C. Ferries from the B.C. Mainland) to Port Alberni and on through to Tofino.
The buses are modern, large and comfortable. Large windows offer the tourist great views of the Island scenery highlights which are Cameron Lake and Cathedral Grove when riding from Nanaimo to Port Alberni.
I have used this service and can personally attest that the drivers are very courteous, able and willing to go that 'extra mile'.
