Golden City Hot Pot: The best Chinese Hot Pot in town
Nice deco and services. Their utensils and foods are so clean that I can't find anywhere in town.
Favorite Dish: My favorite is their slice beef, it is so tender and less fat. Also they serve free plum juice and hot pot dipping sauce (lot of choices) as much as you like.
Dem Bones Restaurant: A rib tickling experience
The decor pays tribute to the American Southwest and the food pays tribute to "down-home" southern cooking.
Favorite Dish: Start off with a basket of fresh and hot cornbread. While waiting for your meal, try the drink of the day...when we visited, we had the Vodka Paralyzer. Let me tell you from the start that portions are huge, so we decided to order an appetizer and an entree...good for us that we did. The appetizer was Shrimp Tempura and the entree was the 16 oz. Montreal Hot "N" Spicy Ribs which came with cole slaw, curly fries and corn fritters. Oh and before I forget, you will need the cute bibs so that you don't mess up your clothes.
Sockeye City Diner: Richmond Restaurant
Right at Steveston Harbour where you can watch the boats go by or the people go by.
Favorite Dish: I'd have to say all of them. This is not just a seafood restaurant. There are chicken and pasta dishes. I recommend them all. But, the one that I like the most has to be the soup in the bread bowl. Very filling.
Michigan Noodle Restaurant: Chinese Comfort Food - Snacks

Jang Mo Jib Korean Restaurant: Korean
外 母 屋 ~ Nother In Law's Home aptly describes this large Korean Restaurant, for our supper it was almost full, busy with lots of action. We were a family group of 14, so the younger members ordered, oldies sat back and savoured the variety of flavours.

Little Mexico Cantina: Fantastic Mexican!
We always try to find delicious Mexican restaurants, and this place was a wonderful find! It was actually recommended by my husband's boss and we couldn't wait to try it. We eventually ended up here on a Friday night after we had to make a trip to the airport. We arrived before the usual dinner crowd would and the place was pretty empty - perfect for us to eat with our little girl. The atmosphere was fun and friendly and the service was also very friendly! My husband loved his margarita, and our daughter got a special chocolate milk with whipped cream and sprinkles (along with a basket of books and toys to help keep her entertained while we waited for food).
The food came out fast, and we were so happy that unlike a lot of Mexican restaurants the food wasn't really greasy and salty! I ordered a Chimichanga (one of my favourites) and was sold on it when I saw that they grilled it rather than fried it! The refried beans were also not excessively salty like a lot of places you will find. It was just nice to enjoy our meal and leave feeling satisfied - not bloated and gross! We were really, really impressed and will definitely be repeat visitors!
We were also pleased with how we were able to just order a half cheese quesdilla for our daughter! She loved it and couldn't get enough. It was just a really wonderful experience and we wouldn't hesitate to go back when we are in the Steveston Village area (or even Richmond for that matter!).

Hog Shack: Great BBQ!
Since Vancouver and the surrounding area are largely saturated with Asian food options, we were excited to find a BBQ place to try to switch things up a little. The first time we attempted to go, we were disappointed to find out you needed a reservation. However, we kept this in mind two days later and were happy to get a table for that night. It was well worth it, and we loved the food we got!
The place is a little small, but it looks great and it's right on the water. I imagine it would be a fantastic place to go in the summer (there would be more seating then as they have a patio). Of course, not only is the food great, but they have a fabulous beer menu as well!
Since it's on the south western tip of Richmond, it's a bit of a drive, but if you have a rental car I highly recommend it as Steveston village is a nice place to visit and take a walk along the water.
Favorite Dish: Everything we ordered was great! I had the side ribs with baked beans and cheesy corn as my sides. I have never heard of, or tried cheesy corn before but it was DELICIOUS! My boyfriend was wondering why they didn't offer Mac n' Cheese as a side at a BBQ place, but cheesy corn answered that question! It was fantastic. The baked beans also had a nice kick to them - definitely not your typical baked beans! The side ribs were perfectly seasoned and and the meat just fell off the bone - the way it should be!
My boyfriend ordered the Smoke Lover's Combo - pulled pork and smoked brisket! Both were fabulous and so were his sides: corn bread and coleslaw!

Tandoori Kona: It's All About the Food!
While staying in Richmond, we drove past this place one night on our way to get some Sushi. We decided to keep it in mind, and the following night we checked out some reviews for it online to find all of them pretty good, so we decided to give it a try. Though it doesn't have a ton of atmosphere, the food was fantastic! The first guy we were "greeted" by (if you could call it that), was rather, uh, silent - but the girl who took care of us the rest of our meal was very nice and attentive. Overall, we were pleased with the service - but it was the food that made the visit memorable.
We had Onion Bahji to start our meal, and it was battered nice and lightly with lots of seasoning. We liked it much more than the Bahji we normally get at our favourite place in Toronto. For dinner my boyfriend ordered the "Village Dinner" which had an assortment of dishes including some vegetarian curries (one with potato and cauliflower, and the other was a lentil curry), as well as tandoori chicken and a tikki masala goat - all of it was a delicious, even if he found it a little bit salty. I ordered the Lamb Saag, and the lamb was cooked perfectly. The best part was that they did not cheat you out of Naan bread. I find that often places will give you maybe one piece of Naan for a meal and you end up trying to ration it out during dinner. This place gave us a pretty good sized basket full of Naan for our two meals and the was no rationing or shortage of Naan for either of us... and it was delicious! Would highly recommend visiting this place if you're in Richmond and looking to switch it up from Chinese or Japanese!
PaJo's Fish and Chips: Fish and Chips on the Beach
There are two locations in the Steveston neighborhood of Richmond, one on a float so you can actually eat "on the river", and the other in Garry Point Park, also on the beach. The service is quick, the food is great and it's a great place to grab lunch or dinner on a walk around Steveston. They're only open in the summer months, as they are an outdoor restaurant, but when the weather's great they're some of the busiest spots in town. Their Garry Point location is adjoined to an ice-cream stand so you can get a sweet treat after your delicious meal. The Park at Garry Point is a great spot to fly kites yourself, or just watch the colourful parade in the sky. It is also near to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery, a national historic site that commemorates the salmon canning industry that gave life to Steveston for so many years.
Favorite Dish: Salmon and chips - The rich pink meat of the salmon wrapped up in the soft batter combine to create an amazing flavour. That on top of a bed of fresh fries, all in a newspaper cone - British style.

The White Spot Restaurant: Irresistible dishes for breakfast, lunch or dinner
When we arrived at the hotel, we asked the front desk for a breakfast recommendation. Of course they said that the restaurant in the hotel was good, but we wanted something different. He then said that the White Spot Restaurant (a Canadian chain) was close by and offered hearty food at a good price. We have to say that it was a very good recommendation...lots of food, contemporary decor and great prices.
Favorite Dish: LJ selected the Garden Sunny Platter (veggies, eggs, special sauce on a homemade with hash browns) while I had the Sunny Start Platter (eggs, bacon, special sauce, cheese with hash browns).

Gogo Tea Cafe: Bubble tea, Hot Pot, and Sailor Moon!
For the times you're craving a modernist 60's decor, Taiwanese food, bubble tea, and your waitresses dressed in maid's outfits or Sailor moon suits... this is your place.
The waitresses at the Gogo Tea Cafe are a novelty, but their menu is large. They have appetizers, hot plates, hot pot, special meals, plus about 4 different pages of Taiwanese drinks - milk tea, bubble tea, hot tea, green tea, fruit slush, calpico, etc. The majority of the food is Taiwanese with a bit of Korean and Japanese thrown in.
It was very quiet when we visited on a Sunday afternoon, but apparently it gets very busy in the evenings. I can imagine this being a place where the local Hong Kong/Taiwanese immigrants come to socialize in the evening, and for the boys to have their eye candy. For me and my friend (two gals) we just came because we knew we'd get a kick out of the costumes... and the bubble tea! Our waitress, for the record, was dressed as a really cute French maid!
Favorite Dish: I ordered the Korean kimchi hot pot ($9.95) and the taro milk tea with pearls ($1.50 with the lunch special if ordered before 3pm). The hot pot was served with a bowl of rice, a bowl of garlic cucumbers, and some steamed gai lan in a teriyaki style sauce. The hot pot was all premade ahead of time, served in one big pot full of kimchi, pork, and tofu. The waitress turned the burner on and turned it down once it had boiled.
It was a lot of food and quite tasty, but it was a bit awkward to eat as the bench seats were very low, but the hot pot was on a portable burner which was high on the table.
I really loved the taro milk tea with pearls. It was a massive glass (about a foot tall) so it could have easily been a meal in itself. Pearls are $0.50 extra, or you can have grass jelly, coconut jelly as alternatives.
All together, lunch for two came to $20 even. A bargain for all the food we had!
