  • Bring Money

And expect very little, unless you are VERY well off. Then you will be welcomed. This island a cr*p hole of the world. A snotty rude backwater, only for rich tourists with the blinkers on. This is the type of private p@ss hole that should be eradicated. Cold unfriendly, anti-music and art ...and those are NOT hippies. they are just welfare...

  • Funky bohemian restaurant with a view!

The Treehouse (South) is one of two Treehouse restaurants in Saltspring Island - this one located at Fulford Harbour. Located in a spatious house overlooking the harbour, the Treehouse (South) is both a coffee house and full sit-down restaurant. The fruit smoothies are the best! I had their strawberry smoothie, which is blended with milk and...

  • Hitch hike.

Hitch hiking is totally accepted among all citizens of Saltspring because the busses are very infrequent and quite a few people have no car.Forget about your usual paranoia and stick out your thumb, just like the little school gorl and old grannies do on saltspring. You won't be considerd weird at all for doing so.

  • Eating cheese next to the cows that make...

Moonstruck Organic Cheese is a small cheese farm owned and operated by two locals who take great pride in the cheese they make. Unlike the more famous cheese farms on Salt Spring that use goat's milk, Moonstruck only uses the organic milk of purebread free range Jersey cows. And it's great! When you drive up to the farm, you can go right up to the...

Saltspring Island Warnings and Dangers

    Don't fall!

by unigirl Written Dec 8, 2006

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Several people have died falling off of Mount Maxwell, and in other ways across the island. Use common sense when on the island. While it is beautiful, the rugged terrain can be dangerous. There have been many deaths from falling, drowning, and other ways. Needless to say, try not to get drunk anywhere near the wilderness!

Keep back! Photo is just an illusion!

Saltspring Island Sports & Outdoors

  • Hiking is awesome!

There are SO MANY places to hike on Salt Spring Island. In fact, if you like to hike, you could probably go every day for a month and not see the same place twice!! There is no point listing them, since you can hike anywhere! However, be sure to be prepared, and try to let someone know where you are going in case something happens to you! A good...

  • Kayaking around the islands

This is a wonderfully fun and serene way to see the islands that surround Salt Spring. Whether you're new (like we were) or seasoned, there is something for everyone. Island Escapades is a great company, and the staff is fantastic! We were luck to have perfect kayaking conditions in late October - clear and crisp air, calm waters, and not another...
