Near the beginning of the Stawamus Chief trail. by Carmanah It's apparently a 6km hike, and most of it is vertical. It's not an easy hike, but if you're up for it, it's definitely a must-see activity (or in this case, a must DO activitiy) while in Squamish. You don't even have to do the entire hike to get great views, however, getting to the top is where the scenic reward really is. I'll get to the top one day, I'm sure! Leave a Comment Directions: The trail starts in southern Squamish off of Hwy 99, at Shannon Falls or the Stawamus Chief exit.

Tourists admiring the misty Shannon Falls by Carmanah Shannon Falls is a beautiful waterfall that we visited during our drive to Squamish. We parked the car and walked up a short trail to the viewing area. The waterfall is very tall and narrow - it cascades over the side of a rocky cliff. During the summer the falls are quite narrow, but during the early spring the falls are loud and ferocious. If you're heading from Vancouver to Whistler or vice versa, a stop at Shannon Falls is the perfect place to stretch your legs and snap a few pictures. As you can see at the bottom of my picture, Shannon Falls is a popular tourist attraction! Leave a Comment Directions: The entrance to the falls is located in southern Squamish, just off of the Sea to Sky Highway. There's a sign on the highway, so you can't miss it. Parking is free.

Squamish has over 100 trails where the terrain ranges from easy riding for the whole family to intense white knuckle single track. A dedicated army of trail builders and mountain bike enthusiasts constantly maintain these routes for the enjoyment of all. Mountain Bike Magazine has rated Squamish as one of the top 25 wildest and exotic places to ride in the world. The Powersmart trail is listed as one of the top 10 single track trails that are a MUST ride. There are three main areas of trails: The Valleycliffe and Crumpit Woods trails, which are single track, stream bed, rock face and and woodland trails; the Mamquam Forest Service Roads which are active logging roads that deliver amazing views of the Mamquam Glacier and harbour some of the gnarliest downhill and freerides around including 19th Hole, featured in the Annual Peanut's Wild Ride (GK Ripper); and the Garibaldi Highlands Trails which connect to Alice Lake, consisting of the abandoned original Squamish rail track and a wide path for an easy ride. On the Highlands trail network you can find some nice wooshy downhills and a lot of inner technical stuff, the most popular being Entrails. The community hosts the Squamish Mountainbike Festival every year which features the Squamish Test of Metal on Saturday. This gruelling 67 k race draws many of the world's top riders and features a mass start of 800 competitiors. by jhorsfield30 Hiking trails ranging from easy walks to strenuous backcountry adventures abound in the Squamish area. The most popular day hike in B.C. is the one to three hour Stairmaster excursion up the backside of the Stawamus Chief. There are about a dozen good to great hikes close to Squamish, some of the best and most popular hikes in Canada. A few of them The Chief, Henrietta Lake, Elfin Lakes, and Garibaldi Lake & Black Tusk are truly outstanding and should not be missed by the hiking enthusiast visiting this area. Due to the mild coastal c limate of the area, many of these hikes can be done year round. There are many good off road maps of the area to view or see the Squamish Forest District Interactive Map Elfin Lakes & Mamquam Lake, Alice Lake and Murrin Lake The Squamish River Estuary is an amazing place to see wildlife. The hike itself takes just under an hour but plan on more time as you will want to stop to observe the ducks, herons, hawks, bald eagles and trumpeter swans. Leave a Comment

by jhorsfield30 If you are a bird enthusiast, then Brackendale is the place to be. every year literally thousands of Bald eagles gather for the winter. The Squamish River Valley has long been recognized as one of the most significant areas of wintering bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) in North America. In the 1994 bird count, Squamish had the world record count of 3,769 eagles. The river?s riparian area provides suitable habitat for roosting, perching and feeding. The prolific runs of chum salmon (Onc orhynchuus keta) in the Squamish, Cheakamus, and Mamquam rivers attract eagles from all over the Pacific Northwest from November to February each year. Each year the Bald Eagle attracts thousands of people from around the world to observe them in their winter home. One of the best places to spot the Bald Eagles is at the Eagle Run view point on Government Road. There are also many tours set up for eagle watching. You can choose horse back, rafting or walking tours. All I can say I wow,, Leave a Comment

by lazyman_1 Modelled after Calgary's saddledome, the tourist information center is a great place to stop and grab a coffee while you're planning what to do in Squamish. The staff really knew their way around the city and there were countless flyers, brochures and maps of squamish and the surrounding area. Leave a Comment
