Favorite thing: The harbour area in Tofino is a great place to hang out. You can watch the boats come and go, see the occasional float plane take off, or just find somewhere to sit and watch the world go by. Despite the activity it’s a peaceful scene, mainly because the views across the water of Clayoquot Sound to the small off-shore islands are so restful.
You’re also likely find yourself here if you’re going off exploring as it’s the starting point for whale watching tours, scenic flights, kayaking tours etc.
An excellent (free) map of Tofino
Favorite thing: (work in progress)
This excellent , easy to use map is available free of charge from tourist information and is ideal for navigating around Tofino.
It has an attractive 'cartoon' format and is printed on sturdy paper that is less likely to rip than more conventional maps that are printed on flimsier paper.
Tofino isn't large populationwise, but it is a town that is strung out along the main road over a distance of several kilometres. For this reason, a lot of the hotels and guest houses aren't necessarily within easy walking distance of the centre of town, and it's worth bearing this in mind when you select your accommodation, especially if you don't have your own transport.
Driftwood for miles
Favorite thing: If you like looking at driftwood, Long Beach is one of the best places in BC to go. The fierce waves of the Pacific have pounded the old wood here smooth and into all sorts of shapes.
Is this Norway or Canada?
Favorite thing: The sounds and fjords are breathtakingly beautiful. I have yet to visit Norway, but this is how I imagine the Norwegian fjords.
