It's one of the mountains you see north of Vancouver. The one to the right. you need a car, or a bike, or both as it is a mecca for mountain bikers. Go up the hill, watch for deers or perhaps black bears if you are lucky, and you will arrive at a parking lot. In the winter time you can ski or snowshoe, and in the summer time you can take a hike to the peak for wonderful 360 degree view...

    Seymour Park - Dog Mountain

    Westward view from Dog Mountain

This 2.5 hours walk will offer you a breathtaking view of Vancouver and it surroundings, from Mount Baker to Victoria Island in the background and Mount Garibaldi.

The drawback compare to Grouse Mountain is that you will have to walk during 2.5 hours to get there (with very little climbing).
But ... the path is very pleasant, lying in open forest. Very few tourists too ! You can admire the vista only disturbed by the jackdaw's caws.

The trail starts near the stairlift terminal. Just follow the signs !

Seymour Park - First Lake : silence !

    by mike-tango Written Aug 28, 2005
    First Lake

On the trail to Dog Mountain.

    Picturesque small lake !

Just sit on a rock near the lake and enjoy the view and ... the silence ! Amazing to find this deep silence, so close to the big noisy city of Vancouver.
