Well, it's not a close by off the beaten path, but well worth it though. It's a must see and must do thing if you are in Vancouver and you plan to explore more of this province. The beautiful Canadian Rocky Mountains are located in the most eastern part of British Columbia, bordering Alberta where the Rocky Mountains go on. The Canadian Rocky Mountains exist out of a few National Parks...Yoho NP, Banff NP and Jasper NP. These high mountains with their blue glacier-fed lakes are breathtaking. People have come from all over the world to witness the beauty of the Rockies. The scenery is stunning everywhere you go. Don't miss the Icefields Parkway, one of the most beautiful highways in the world. If you like the outdoors, there's nothing short of that over here. You can go hiking as there are tons of hiking trails, you can go canoeing/kayaking, wild water rafting, sightseeing, trips on the Icefields and so much more. Wildlife is another thing that you will come across when visiting the Canadian Rockies. You'll have a great chance to see moose, elk, bears, deer, eagles and the largest herd of bighorn sheep in North America. BUT PLEASE, DON'T FEED ANY ANIMALS, IT CAN HARM THEM!!! Leave a Comment

by margaretvn Visit Banff and go with the cable car up Sulphur Mountain. The gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain (2,285 metres above sea level) takes 8 minutes. At the top is a collection of visitor services such as an observation deck giving marvellous views over the Rockies. There is also the Vista Trail Walkway to Sanson’s Peak. There is a restaurant, we went up with the first gondola of the day and it was great to have breakfast with the early morning sun on the wide views. There is plenty of parking at the lower terminal plus a snack bar and gift shop. It is open daily from December 26 to mid-November Phone (403) 762-5438 for schedules and opening times. by margaretvn Columbia Icefield/Athabasca Glacier The Icefields Parkway is considered to be one of the most scenic highways in the world. It gives the visitor an ever changing view of waterfalls, lakes, alpine meadows and peaks covered in snow. The Parkway extends 230 kilometres from Lake Louise to Jasper, it winds along the shoulder of the Great Divide and passes the spectacular mountains of the Eastern Main Range of the Canadian Rockies. The Columbian Icefield is located on the boundary of the Banff and Jasper National Parks. It is one of the largest accumulations of ice and snow south of the Artic Circle and covers almost 325 square kilometres. The continuing accumulation of snow feeds 8 main glaciers which include the Athabasca Glacier. This glacier is opposite the Columbia Icefield Visitors centre, and it is a 6 kilometre long and 1 kilometre wide tongue of ice. We took the tour up the glacier in a specially built “Snocoach”. The weather changed while we were going up the glacier but we were still able to step out of the coach onto the ice on the glacier. Leave a Comment
