The day before the competition started, we were given the opportunity to go out for lunch downtown on our own and I thought my nephew and some of his teammates might enjoy going to the Old Spaghetti Factory - and they did! The restaurant is located in the historic Gastown section of Vancouver, and it was the first Old Spaghetti Factory to open its doors in Canada. It's located in an old storage facility so the place is huge, which makes it a good place for team dinnners, but it's also divided in such a way that provides a more intimate atmosphere for smaller groups. At less than $10, the lunch menu is an incredible value: it includes a soup or salad, all the freshly baked bread you can eat, and your main course. We all got pasta and they were excellent, and service was quick and friendly. A nice place to go for a family meal or a casual lunch with friends!
Am I really writing a review for this place? Good lord.
The Old Spaghetti Factory is a Gastown institution. Hordes of tourists b-line there which always makes me cringe. You have one day in Vancouver, and you’re going to spend it here? But if you’re a bargain hunter searching the best deal or you’re feeding your family of tiny mouths, the Old Spaghetti Factory is fitting. It’s the McDonald’s of Italian cooking – cheap, filling, popular with young families, but the food is…
… it’s actually pretty decent for what it is. You pay $10 for a plate of spaghetti. You choose the sauce. It comes with a salad or soup and endless loaves of fresh, hot bread. For dessert, you get a cup of spumoni ice cream, and you’re set.
Service is actually really good here. It might not be the fastest or the most efficient, but the servers have been well-trained and are in positive spirits, despite the fact that most tables are large banquet parties with shrieking kids. I can recognize their professional attitudes and really appreciate it.
As for the space, it's a huge restaurant in an old brick warehouse furnished with hundreds of Tiffany lamps, stained glass windows, antiques, and an authentic heritage trolley car from early 20th century.
Favorite Dish: The spaghetti with spicy meat sauce is what I'll order if I happen to find myself at an Old Spaghetti Factory. The sauce is actually very, very spicy in that satisfying burning way, which I like. I tried the clam sauce once, but found the sauce bland and pasty.
The popcorn shrimp appetizer is also really good, especially if you share it between two of you. They also have a bit of spice to them and are crispy in all their deep-fried goodness.
In March of 1970, the original Old Spaghetti Factory in Canada was opened in Gastown.
The concept was a simple one: an old warehouse filled with antiques and greenery in a historical part of Vancouver. The finest pasta and excellent service would make a unique and exciting dining experience.
Exciting, I couldn't say, but the food is good, the ambience comfortable, there is a lot to look at.
It's comfortable and inviting, always has been.
Favorite Dish: On my most recent visit, I had the baked lasagna, with complimentary loaf of bread and two kinds of butter. The meal was great and hit the spot.
Went to the Old Spagetti factory on a cold stormy day and it was just what we needed to brighten ourselves up. The food was good and the service was great. Nothing but nice things to say!
LOVE THEIR ICE CREAM.
Favorite Dish: i'm easy... i loved their basic spagetti in red sauce.
One of my favourite restaurants is the Old Spaghetti Factory in Gastown. In the old days, they used to have a scale inside that you could use to weigh yourself. My friend Brennen ate a huge meal one time, and came out of the restaurant 9 lbs heavier than when he went in.
With each meal, you'll get a loaf of tasty sourdough bread.
Favorite Dish: I love the spicy spaghetti, or the lasagna.
Excellent food in the tourist location of Gastown. Great for single people, families or large groups. Be careful not to venture to far outside the Gastown area because it starts getting scummy if you go too much further.
Favorite Dish: Yum - anything italien.
The was actually the ONLY restaurant I ate in so I guess it's my favorite too :) It was the SPAGETTI FACTORY.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff- it was a very relaxed atmosphere.
Favorite Dish: I had a salad and the lasagna. The portions were huge and I was full from the garlic bread before they even brought out the meal.
go to Gastown!!! Old spagetthi factory. or the italien one with view on the sea and the imax.
in the old spaghetti factory you feel like a railway tycoon of the first times. very nice interieur. but it isn't expensive at all!
Favorite Dish: well, italian food isnt that bad in the hamurger-world
Very large busy restaurant with atmosphere on Water street. Outside dining in the summer and very reasonable prices.
Favorite Dish: Well, it's all pasta at the end of the day?
