The Thai House has long offered a reasonable level of Thai offerings to the citizens of Vancouver. There are several locations now in the city.
I've generally had good experiences here though I've also heard some negative reports, generally associated with rude service. If you have a choice avoid the Richmond location (where most of the bad reports seem to come from) and try one of the locales in Vancouver city.
Note: This restaurant is prominently featured in Vancouver's Entertainment Book: http://www.entertainment.com The savings for 4 people for one meal here generally pays for the book!
The Thai house has a good reputation in Vancouver and they have a number of branches. If you've only ever tasted thai food outside of Thailand then you're probably going to like it. If you have tasted the real mccoy then you will be dissapointed. The food was now where near spicy enough and the green curry wasn't very good at all. Prices are around $10 - 15 for a main dish but turn up at lunch time and you're in for a bargain with most items on the menu available for a set price of $6.95 which makes this something of a bargain especially if you pick the right things. You also get complementary spring rolls and soup so you're in for a good hearty lunch.
Therefore I'd avoind the place during the evening and try and come for lunch. The food is OK but I like my Thai nice and spicy. My Thai freind who accompanied me found the food "so-so" but also complained of the lack of chilli, and that the chicken with ginger lacked the ginger!
Anyhow go for lunch and make your own mind up.
I went to the Thai House on Burrard and 7th. On the weekend they have an a la carte buffet that is very, very good. This place got me hooked on Thai and I go every time I return to Vancouver. Good value for the money.
Favorite Dish: Steamed jasmine rice.
Well, i didn´t eat at the restaurant so i can´t give you a description of the food, but i walked in and i liked it, they have a great atmosphere inside, and the smells were so delicious, the problem was i didn´t have enough money to eat there; so if you are hungry and have money go there and tell me if it´s as good as it looks!!!!
There are several locations in Vancouver and the decor is not too exciting, but has pictures of the Thai Royal Family and the food is just excellent! It is pretty small inside so get there early so you don't have to wait!
Favorite Dish: I personally like their vegetarian pad thai which is a dish of noodles, vegetables and tofu in a spicy peanut sauce. The food here is great and if you are in a group, you can opt for the combination meals: for 2: $32; for 4: $60; for 6: $89 (This includes spring rools, chicken satay with Thai peanut sauce, chicken with red curry sauce in coconut, beef with farlic, pad thai, eggplant with shrimp and minced pork, stirfried tiger prawns with cashew nuts and roasted chilli, and steamed Jasmine rice with coconut milk.); for 8: $113.
This quaint restaurant was packed on the night we went. The food was very good, especially if you like it hot and spicy.
