THE WHITE SPOT: FAMILY DINING IN VANCOUVER
The WHITE SPOT is a Vancouver based chain of over 50 family dining restaurants in Western Canada. Soup & sandwiches, Steak & Seafood, Chicken, Burgers, Salads and Wraps. It's a great place to go for dinner. It's also a good place to meet. That's why the White Spot Restaurant was chosen for our mini VT. Meeting
Favorite Dish: I had the "White Spot Club" which was on toasted rye with turkey, bacon, tomato, lettuce and mayo, served with creamy coleslaw and fries.
White Spot: White Spot
I wasn't sure weather to put this down as a place to eat or a tourist trap. At the end of the day if nothing else the owner of this BC chain of restaurants is good at marketing.
While on a tour, our guide highly recommended the White Spot. That is how I first heard about the place, so I thought I would give it a try. It was recommended because of their legendary O sauce, that is apparently why everyone goes there.
After some enquiries at the restaurant about the O sauce the waiter looked at me funny and said it is a mixture of mayo and realish. That's it!!!!
That being said the meal was fine but don't the O sauce didn't exactly knock me off the chair.
White Spot: Family Style Restaurant with Great Burgers
White Spot has been around in Vancouver and area as long as I can remember, and it has gone through the ups and downs of popularity. However, it has survived and is still a great place to go for dinner. As it is a child-friendly restaurant, don't expect a quiet romantic dinner for two.
Favorite Dish: I have usually had burgers in the past, but this time I tried the fish and chips - a little "over battered and under fished" for my taste, but the fries were good.
The children that were with us loved the Pirates Treaure meals.
White Spot: Irresistibly different
Knowing this restaurant has been around for over 70 years in western Canada, I had always wanted to eat there so, on my 4th visit to Vancouver I finally went.
I had it's famous fish and chips which were very, very tasty! It offers breakfasts, luch and dinner. It's triple "O" burger was voted "one of the Top 125 Canadian experiences and the athmosphere is bright and modern.
Favorite Dish: Fish and chips,
White Spot: A local institution for burgers & comfort food
The White Spot is a BC-owned and operated restaurant chain that has been around since the late 1920's. It was first started as a burger take-out but then became one of Vancouver's most famous drive-through restaurants with locations expanding throughout the province. In more recent decades, the White Spot has changed from a take-out to a sit-down restaurant, and its menu has expanded well beyond diner food. The White Spot seems to have a loyal following among BC residents, especially among families with young children, and senior citizens.
But because of all the nostalgia locals have for the White Spot, many will hype it up. Okay, maybe not hype it up, but they'll probably recommend it a lot. Yet, I'm sure most visitors who don't have this White Spot nostalgia will probably find the restaurant no big deal. But that's the White Spot for you. It's nothing fancy, but it's reliable good old fashioned comfort food without any attitude.
Favorite Dish: Surprisingly, White Spot makes an awesome turkey dinner, with all the fixings! Lots of turkey sliced on top of mashed potatoes and stuffing, with gravy and cranberry sauce.
The old standby however is the famous White Spot burger. There's nowhere else that makes burgers like this. It hasn't changed since I was a kid (and probably not since a long time before then!) They toast the bun slightly and *always* have a thin slice of dill pickle resting on top. The White Spot burger will usually come with lettuce, tomato, the burger, and their famous "Triple O" sauce which is their own blend of mayo, relish, and ketchup or who knows. Yes, it's a simple recipe, but when you grow up eating White Spot burgers, the nostalgia kicks in when you're presented with one, and it becomes the best tasting thing you've ever had.
If you have room for dessert, they have a moist, rich chocolate cake that's about 5 layers high with chocolate icing, whipped cream, ice cream, and a cherry on top. Heaven!
White Spot: White Spot
Like they say, it's a BC Legend. Founded way back when by a guys called Nat Bailey, White Spot is an istitution here. I don't know anyone who doesn't like it....great food, great prices...
Favorite Dish: BC Burger platter with lettuce and tomato...Mediterranean chicken burger...milkshakes...clam chowder.....the pickle (you'll understand when you go there)...zoo sticks....anything, really...
This is a childhood favorite... used to go there as a child for their pirate paks (they still have them) and it is more like family cooking- not a super hip restaurant to go to for atmosphere, though they have been trying to change their image a lot lately, making the restaurants less family-style and adding new trendy worldy items to the menu. Its a good place to go for good dependable food, though the prices are getting a bit expensive (well not that expensive, but like any other restaurant of its kind- thats inflation I guess). These are only found in B.C. and watch out for the fast food Whitespots (not the real kind) though good if you just want a burger (special sauce- yes they have veggie burgers!). They have also monopolozied food service on the Super Ferries!
Favorite Dish: Portobello Mushroom burger (with special sun dried tomato mayonnaise) and the Zoo Sticks (fried zucchini with a creamy dip)!Oh, and by the way the portobello mushroom burger is JUST a mushroom (sooo good) but no meat folks.
White Spot: Casual dining
We stopped here right before heading out of town, it was really nice inside and had a great patio for the summer time and the drink menu to go with it.
Favorite Dish: Try one of their wraps, I had a chipotle chicken wrap that was delicious.
