If you're looking for a beer and a bute then the Yaletown is right in the centre of of the hustle. The beer here is really quite good and the food isn't bad either. tehre are pool tables and tv's so you could head over and spend the whole evening here. I liked it and would comeback again. Parking in this area is tough so come early or be prepared to drive around for a while.
As with most brewpubs, I seldom eat there but I do check out the beer. Iain Hill is the head brewmaster for the entire Mark James Group but works his day-to-day magic here. Hill's Special Wheat is his trademark, and the best wheat beer in the province. The Velvet Stout is another winner. Even the lagers are well-made. It's tough to find a quiet moment in the place, and it's been like that for ten years. Sundays you get half-priced beer and pizza.
Favorite Dish: Hill's Special Wheat - Sweet, fruity and comploex, just the way I like a weizenbier. In the winter, look for the Jolly Hooligan or Velvet Stout as well.
The four door staff were so busy chatting to their friends that they totally ignored us and two other groups that arrived in the 5 minutes or so that we waited. After that we left to go somewhere else.
The Yaletown Brewing Co is probably my favourite restaurant/brew pub if I want to sit out on the patio. It was voted best Brew Pub in Canada in 1999 and 2000 by internationally acclaimed 'Brew Pub Magazine', and it has won numerous top awards from the local magazines and newspapers. Now it seems like they're flaunting it, as when I went there with my dad in January 2003, they had a sign saying, "You're sitting in the best brew put in Canada". Aside from that, they serve an amazing selection of food - not your typical deep fried pub food, but healthy gourmet cuisine - from curries and Asian noodle dishes, to thin-crust pizza, pasta, panini sandwiches, burgers, seafood, and vegetarian cuisine They also brew their own beer. That, of course, is probably their most important feature!
Favorite Dish: Lunch: Beef & melted Brie sandwich with roasted red peppers on toasted foccacia - yum! Pizza - half price on Sundays! Beer: Hill's Special Wheat (aka: heif weizen), the Velvet Stout (seasonal). Recently I had their soup of the day: lobster bisque, and their house smoked salmon salad, which was delicious! You really can't go wrong here in the food or beer department. This is a first class brewpub - the awards were right!
how can you go wrong with a restaurant that brews it's own beer?? Apparently, and I have not gone on one myself, you can take a tour of the brewery during the day!
Yaletown is a great place for Friday night dinner and is usually packed with yuppies out for a post-work drink.
Favorite Dish: Goat Cheese Ravioli (stop laughing, Jack and Stephanie!). calamari. beer.
