Charlie's Music City: Ultimate CD Store

    by Elli99fh Updated Apr 4, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

They claim to be the largest used CD store in Canada. They certainly do have a lot of stock. The store is spacious and bright and the stock is arranged thoughtfully. For example, for rock there are alphibetical sections. The top shelf at eye level are stacks of miscellaneous artists, end-on so you can look through them quickly. More popular artists are arranged face-out below that so you can see them easily. I had a large stack of things to listen to. They only give you one disc at a time, but are helpful and patient even if you want to listen to a lot of discs. Evelyn was very helpful, and indicated they have an expensive CD cleaning machine that removes minor scratches. You can bring your scratched CD's, and if they think they can fix them they charge $1 to $1.50 per disc.

What to buy: CD's and more CD's!

What to pay: Prices are $9-10 CDN for most CD's.

  • Scarlet: Lingerie & Indulgence

If you want beautiful lingerie or corsets this has got to be the place in Vancouver. They carry a great selection of brands with La Perla, Elle macpherson , Lejaby and Mary Green. The owner sias the corsets are hand made from England. The service is really good the woman helped me get the perfect fit for a bra.

They seem to have thought of everything because the changing rooms had dimmer lighting which I thought was a nice touch. They also carry sex toys for women which I thought was cool, it was like a really up market Anne Summers but though the quality and service was much better the prices were surprisingly good.

They said they should have a web site working in September.

What to buy: Vancouver isn't a city I would expect to buy lingerie in but the selection and service here made it irresistable. They had a good selection of brands including La Perla, Elle Macphersonn Betsey Johnson and others, the prices are really good in comparison to what I have seen travelling in the US or back in the UK.

The other nice thing is that if you are a tourist you can take advantage of your anonimity and check out their 'toy' section at the back of the store. Everything is for women, there are toys to touch and test, the iformation was helpful and the staff very professional and discrete.

What to pay: Whatever you like, go wild

ABC Book and Comic Emporium: Great Used Book Store

Tucked away in a little store on Granville Street is one of the best used books stores you'll find anywhere. It is just cluttered with used paperbooks and comic books. They specialize in Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Mystery books. Books are arranged by author. There are pull out dressers full of paperbacks, plus shelves above that which extend nearly to the ceiling. There is also a second floor that is even more cluttered that the main floor. The used books aren't especially cheap. Most paperbacks sell in the $4 to $5 dollar range CDN. But still, it's a treasure trove of used paperbacks, and well worth a trip if you're a book lover.

What to buy: Sci-Fi and Fantasy paperbacks, along with Comic Books.
