Across the Burrard Street Bridge from downtown is Kitsilano. In addition to having (probably) the best beach in Vancouver, Kits also has some good shopping on 4th Avenue (as well as on 9th Avenue, a.k.a. Broadway). Lots of stores, ranging from arts and crafts, to kitchenware, to clothing, to books line this street from (approximately) Fir street to Balsam. Definitely worht checking out.

A small local bookstore. It has a nice open spot with chairs to check out some perspective buys. They bring in varies authors for book signings as well. Since the store is smaller they will order any book that you wish. The employees are very helpful and will recommend different books.
What to buy: Books, they will order any ones you wish
What to pay: all depends

Its a local store that has many varieties and personal service. One of the things that attract me to this store is the level of service they provide. While trying to plan a party and all the stuff that goes along with it the last thing you need to worry about is the minor details of the invites or thank you notes. They also have ssame sex marriage cards which can be hard to find. After searching 4 stores I finally found one for my friends marriage.
What to buy: Invites
Paper
Cards (wedding, birthday)
What to pay: Varies

Are you looking for a battery or battery charger for your camera, mobile computer, alarm system, calculator, hearing aid, or other electronic gadget? Then this is the only place you should go!
They have an enormous assortment of batteries, including some that are very difficult to find.
Another thing I really like is that they will recycle your old batteries, whereas most of the larger "box" stores just throw them in the garbage.
What to pay: I shopped around and found the prices to be very reasonable.

In 1975 Doreen Braverman opened the first Flag Shop in Vancouver. The store has moved but is still going strong. And there are now Flag Shop franchises throughout Canada.
It's a neat store to visit. Kids especially love it!
What to buy: They have more Canadian flags than anything else but still have a large variety of other flags from around the world. They can even make you a custom one! Besides flags, they also sell award pennants and windsocks. And many of their items can even be rented.

If you're strolling along West Broadway in Vancouver's Greek area then be sure to pay a visit to Serano's bakery. They offer a wide assortment of breads and pastries.
Yummy on all accounts!

For just $15 you can get an excellent haircut. I'd suggest you ask for "Trin", a nice young woman who is very skilled at her trade.
