Take the Seabus which goes from Vancouver (the foot of Granville Street) to North Vancouver. 13 minute trip across the harbor costs only C$2.50 and gives a wonderful perspective on why people love to live in Vancouver.
On the North Vancouver side, there is plenty to do for a full day. Right at the Seabus terminal, you'll find Lonsdale Quay - a market and shopping area with its own hotel. On Sundays in the summer, there are featured activities (eg: Caribbean Days) at Waterfront Park, which is a 2 minute walk from the Quay.
Also within walking distance is Lower Lonsdale, a rapidly developing area with bars, restaurants, and shopping.
Direct bus connections from the Seabus terminal will take you to places as diverse as Grouse Mountain or the Park Royal shopping center. You can also go straight up Lonsdale, which is one of the most interesting streets. Bus up, then walk from 23rd Street down the hill. Restaurants, bars, little businesses, wonderful views - it's one of the most interesting street walks around.

Take a hover craft over to Lawnsdale (sp) quay and walk through the market. A drive up Whistler is also recommended.
A great little adventure. Whistler is beautiful and a wonderful view of the city upon return.

Take the sea bus from downtown to and you get a great view of the Vancouver skyline. There is shopping and good food! A cheap diversion while exploring the downtown area.
