The Fair at the PNE
Every year at the end of the summer holidays there it means it's time to brace yourself for disco dogs and deep fried anything you can think of and head to the annual Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver. This event starts around this middle of August and ends during the Labour Day weekend (1st weekend of September). The PNE is some kind of a big fair with lots of weird and yummy food stands, there is a market place with many vendors that are trying to sell you things (think of "as seen as on TV", jewelry, cleaning products, information booths and so much more), there is the Superdogs (a dog show), the Peking Acrobats, farm yard to explore the farm animals, live performances at night and so much more all included in your admission ticket. It's a fun filled family event that most locals will take in during the last 2 weeks of the summer.
In an effort to battle falling numbers, organizers have cut admission prices from $20 to $16 this year, ramped up the live music series and are trying out what they promise to be a blockbuster exhibition. This year there is an exhibition called Genghis Khan: The Exhibition will feature ancient weapons and murals depicting battles that helped the infamous Mongol reign over an area that spanned continents, from modern-day Korea all the way to eastern Europe (there is a fee for this exhibition on top of the admission fee). Every year they may have different exhibitions.
Besides all this you also have access to Playland, which is a small amusement park with many different rides for big and small. You have to have a separate ticket to enjoy all the rides at Playland, but you can wonder through there and have a look at all the different rides. You can buy separate tickets for each ride or you can get a day or half day pass.
We've been going here several times and it's always fun, especially now with our little girl of 3 years old. She enjoyed the Superdogs and the farm animals and she also enjoyed a few of the rides for kids.
The PNE is open every day from 11.00AM until late. Parking however is quite expensive and on the PNE grounds cost $16 CAD, if you get there a bit before it opens you can find parking at the school grounds nearby.

Lots of fun with good friends. Make sure you take some Gravol if you are getting a bit older...like myself... The Hellevator is my FAVORITE ride...with the best view in Vancouver as well! I had a great day with my fellow Koot girlz...I especially miss Shoshie! The brightest star in our sky!
