Vancouver Trolley cars are sort of like the fancy tacky tour bus of Vancouver. I feel that everybody should always make the point of doing the "City Tour" - which ever city they are visiting!
They might be tacky in a touristy sort of way, but you can't visit it city without doing it! ha ha ha!
We chose the Vancouver Trolley Car for our Vancouver tour. It was great fun for all the usual reasons i.e. its reasonably cheap, you see a lot, you can hop on and off as you please and the drivers are very friendly.
However, 2 things did spoil it alittle:
1) They are quite small and have no windows on the roof - which means when you pass by tall buildings that are on the opposite site of the road from where you are sitting, you cannot see them!
2) They don't really stop anywhere long enough for a decent photo opportunity. The only times we noticed them stopping was at traffic lights and of course at the trolley car bus stops.
All in all it was a good way to spend a few hours, and to get a good impression of where everything was. Its also allows you to visit both Granville Island and Gastown in the same day - even although they are at opposite end of Downtown.
Not overly expensive, it cost us $56 dollars total, which is around ?28. For that you can use the trolley cars all day, hopping on and off as you please.
A good way to see a lot of Vancouver in a short time, or to get a glimpse of places you want to go back to and spend more time there, is to use the Vancouver Trolley,
It has 23 stops, fully narrated, you get off and on whenever you feel like it.
There is a day pass for one full circuit.
Pick up a leaflet, or ask at your hotel. There is a timetable included,. a map showing the route and numbered stops , so it is easy to choose your stop off points, if you have done your homework first.
Believe it or not, the picture shows part of the roof of the Trolley that was decorated for Christmas, with huge red bows. The outside of the Trolley had icicle style lights all round it.

Well, I'm not too sure what to think about this, but Vancouver has their own trolley cars that stroll around downtown. Unfortunately they run on wheels, and not rails.
This is Vancouver's attempt to implement the successful trolley car system in San Francisco. I liked the ones in San Fran better myself.
Enjoy the best of Vancouver in the classic turn-of-the-century trolleys. Visit Vancouver's major attractions, famous parks and gardens, shopping areas and fine restaurants.
Trolley Tours start in Gastown at Stop #1 at 9:00 am and leave every 30 minutes thereafter. Last tour leaves Gastown (Stop #1) at 4:00 pm and arrives back at 6:00 pm.
Tour at your own pace! Take the entire tour in 2 hours or get off the Trolley at any of our stops to visit attractions, shop or dine. Then reboard another Trolley to continue your tour.
Reservations are not necessary. Tickets can be purchased from the driver when you board.
