OK.....We LOVED the food here so much that we went back on the second day that we were in town...both trips here.....all eight meals that all of us combined eat here over the two trips were all GREAT...we enjoyed a luncheon and the following day a breakfast...
We didn't have to wait more than five minutes despite showing up with a group of five..the second day was a group of three...we were seated and having first coffees or waters within five minutes..
The service was pretty good.....Ive read some reviews that kind of slammed them for poor service... that wasn't my experience here...the portions were very large...in everything from salads to main courses...
I really should have jotted a few things down but I was relying on maybe finding an Inet information source to jogg my memory...I really cant remember what everybody had for lunch....
Favorite Dish:
The breakfast hit that two of three of us enjoyed was the "classic" eggs Benny...generous portions of potato and eggs poached just right.etc.etc....served on a local baked Mont Royal Bagel...the bakery is just up the street a little ways on Quadra Street...if I remember correctly the owner of the bagel joint is from Montreal..and the bagels are the BEST in town...ok sorry...back to the Fox...
The Blue Fox is a very casual little restaurant with lots of staff who serve up your food quickly and with a smile. They have all sorts of breakfast dishes, as well as a selection of lunch (and maybe dinner?) fare. This is the type of restaurant where queueing (mainly on the weekend) is part of the experience- chat with locals and tourists in the line while inhaling the smell of fresh bread and fresh coffee! They will take reservations for not-quite-peak times, or for groups of six or more diners.
I love the Early Bird Special - two eggs, pan fries and toast for $4.50. The eggs were scrambled nicely, the toast was super-thick and yummy, and the pan fries were delicious! This special is served daily from 7:30 to 11:00 on weekdays; I'm not sure about weekends.
Favorite Dish: I had their Apples Charlotte Toast. It's French toast made out of a French baguette cut length-wise, and cut into 3 long pieces. The bread was cut thick and it was cooked until very soft - almost like a pudding! Red Delicious apples were then sliced thinly and cooked with brown sugar until caramelized, and this was piled on top of the bread. A generous portion of maple syrup was served on the side. Needless to say, it was delicious but it was so huge, I couldn't finish it! I could barely finish one piece and had to take the remaining two pieces home!
The Blue Fox
I kid you not... the best breakfast place in Victoria, and always packed on the weekends (so be prepared to wait!). Full of locals, this place has great service and a cozy yet clean atmosphere... i cannot rave about it enough! i have been dreaming about a blue fox meal since i left the country a year ago! mmmmmmm!
The Fox is actually a very ordinary place... cafe style and laid back. I think that's what i like about it... oh, and homemade bread, need i say more? (They also use free range eggs.)
Favorite Dish:
The apple and cinammon french toast is a good pick... but any of the cheep breakfast deals are good too (served until 11am)... did i mention that it's all day breakfast (for those fellow lazy leos who like to sleep in!)
