Sookjai Thai: A Little Off the Tourist Track
While still well within walking distance of the core of downtown Victoria, Sookjai Thai is several blocks from the major tourist and shopping areas. This means it is somewhat less busy and somewhat better price for the food.
However, there is a major theatre and some smaller performace halls nearby, and I found that an event at one of those facilities will easily cause this place to be packed from wall to wall. Though, it is also possible to get a seat at the lunch counter if you are traveling and therefore eating alone.
I found the waitress that served me on Friday evening, January 29th to be very helpful and willing to give a lot of different ideas on places to go in Victoria, and she even wrote out a list for me of some of her favorites.
The hours here can be eccentric. For example currently they are: Monday to Thursday 11:30am-2:30pm and 5pm-8:30pm, and Friday 11:30am-2:30pm and 5pm-9:30pm; Saturday 5pm-9:30pm. Note the huge gap on most afternoons.
