For an amazing walk, drive out to Ogden Point and the Breakwater. There, you can walk on a narrow cement breakwater about one kilometer out into the ocean. Afterwards, walk along the shore away from town, along beautiful Dallas Road. At Clover Point, watch people flying giant kites and check out the windsurfers and kiteboarders taking advantage of the wind and waves. Global warming is changing the animal landscape in the area- I recently saw pelicans along the waterway (normally they stick to California)! There is also an off-leash area for dogs, so dog owners can give their pets some freedom (and anyone who is nervous around dogs need not worry- nearly every owner stays close by his or her pet). You can walk and walk all day along the water - I know I do. Within an hour or two you can arrive at this historic Ross Bay Cemetary on Fairfield Road (a bus can take you back into town), where many of early BCs most prominent people are buried (Emily Carr and James Douglas for example). You can walk even further and arrive at Gonzales Beach, a lovely place to spend a sunny afternoon (again, a bus can take you back into town). Leave a Comment

The Westsong Walkway is a mixture of paved path and boardwalk that winds its way along the shoreline between downtown and Westbay Marina. Get onto the path just over the blue bridge (Johnson Street Bridge) in front of the Ocean Pointe Resort. Follow the trail around to Westbay Marina where you can have a coffee, snack or meal at the Dockside Cafe. Or double back from the Marina and stop at Spinnakers for a beer and snack or meal (http://www.spinnakers.com/)r /> You may see otters, seals, herons and other birds on your walk. You'll pass over the ocean (kids love this) on some of the boardwalk portions. It's a gorgeous walk whether it's sunny or drizzling. You can watch the float planes and boats enter the Inner Harbour and if your timing is right see the lumbering Coho, a large car ferry coming from Port Angeles, Washington, wallow into the harbour. This trail is in and around the Victoria area. You can travel for nearly 60 kilometers (37.5 miles) on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail. You can cycle, walk, roller blade or ride a horse along this former rail line past some of B.C.’s finest scenery. The scenery flows by in slow motion. A quiet cove, a dark hidden lake, rocky outcrops split by twisted Garry Oak. From asphalt to rainforest to canyon...the Goose knows every landscape on Southern Vancouver Island. Definitely worth riding a bike along this trail! For detailed trail maps please visit: The official website of the Galloping Goose Trail Leave a Comment Directions: Official trailhead is at the west end of Johnson St. Bridge, but there are many access points to this trail including Atkinds Rd, Luxtun Fair Ground, Happy Valley Rd, and many moreWebsite: http://www.gallopinggoosetrail.com/

I needed some money so I was told to go to the building close to the dock where there is an ATM machine (it's close to the information office) and while walking, I saw this statue of a white guy with a hat and a bucket. I walked passed by him the first time. Coming back from the ATM machine, I saw him move at the corner of my eye. Then when I got closer, almost in front of the statue, the statue moved! It startled me big time! I asked if I could have a picture of him. He agreed and he put his arm around me. I gave him a dollar for the shot! Directions: Close to the information office, close to the dock.

by j-san Victoria being a tourist-centered town from spring to fall, has quite a number of walking tours to try. For example the Ghostly Walks tour, according to which Victoria is considered the most haunted place on the West Coast, with plenty of spooky places to see and feel: Bastion Square, Old Town, Chinatown, St. Ann's Academy and the historic waterfront apparently having more hauntings than any other parts of the city... The page from Tourism Victoria, below lists some of the popular tours. Leave a Comment

The seaside pathway around Victoria is not as wide or smooth as the pathway in Vancouver, but it is also less crowded. There is a pathway from downtown to Fisherman’s Wharf, but from there you have to continue along Dallas Road to get to Ogden Point. From the breakwater the pathway is quite a nice walk/ride along the Juan de Fuca Straight until Clover Point. Beyond that the walking gets a bit rough and it’s probably more profitable to turn back and explore Beacon Hill Park. Leave a Comment

by ldahl Walk along Dallas drive and get great views of the ocean! There is a great walking path along Dallas drive that give you open views of the ocean. From this path you can also walk down to the rocky beaches and coves. Enjoy looking in tidepools for various creatures! It is gorgeous and on a clear day you can see right across the water to the mountains in Washington! Leave a Comment

by pipsqueak Victoria is so compact, getting around to see it on foot is not a problem. A lot of activity takes place around the Inner Harbour. The Empress Hotel is just out of this picture on the left is as impressive as any you will see anywhere. The Parliament building is in the background. The Royal British Museum is right across the street as well. Leave a Comment

walk around the harbor and city area. NIce and interesting shopping. Definitely see the Empress Hotel and maybe do the high tea. It's a little spendy and worth it. Drop down to the seawall and watch the entertainment and activites, especially the little water taxis. Take a harbor tour in one or just a ride to another part of town. Leave a Comment
