Check the hotel advertisements and web sites, as your room fee may include rental of a bicycle to get around Victoria. Many of the hotels near the ferry terminals in the core of downtown Victoria have this feature. It is cheaper, after all, to not put your car on the ferry. Naturally, bike rental included with a room would be a nice feature for those arriving without a car on the ferry.
Some hotels include the price of bike rental only in the off-peak season.
I imagine that there are probably restrictions that apply. For example, there may not be enough bikes for everyone in the hotel at the same time.
Even so, if you plan or desire to do a bit of exploring of the city by bike, this would be a good option to explore further, as it prevents you from having to go to a bike rental shop: the bikes are right in the hotel, and may be included in your room rental.
To me, there was nothing like walking on Victoria's beautiful and safe streets. As the school wasn't that far from my homestay, I used to walk from Hillside to Downtown everytime I could, with great music on mi ipod and drinking some coffee. Take a chance to walk and discover new places, such as this beautiful park.
