Flying to Vancouver Island by Ann75 Located 30 minutes from downtown Victoria and five minutes from Sidney, Victoria International Airport serves daily flights from Vancouver International Airport and Seattle-Tacoma Airport, as well as direct flights from points throughout Canada and the US. Regular floatplane and helicopter service to downtown Victoria is also available from Vancouver and Seattle. Charter flights for sightseeing, wildlife viewing, hiking and fishing excursions, and to more remote Vancouver Island locations are also available. There are also many float plane componies that fly frequently between the mainland of BC to the Islands. For example there is "Harbour Air Seaplanes", "West Coast Air Ltd.", "Pacific Coastal Airlines" and many more! Leave a Comment

by Minka007 I heard different names for such transportation. Seaplanes, floating planes, flying boats... I think it's fun, I've never been on one yet. It's the same as a regular small airplane but getting off from water. Also I would call them flying cars that land on water :))) Probably when it's stormy waters niether ferry or seaplane is a good way to get to the mainland. About regular planes in my next tip... The veiw from the "flying car", really COOL! by Minka007 That's the way to escape from the island is to rent a plane! It seems really romantic and convinient and not even that expensive. As you just pay for the fuel and time in the air. If you can't lead the plane yourself you can hire and instructor, though it'll be more expensive. My boyfriend is learning how to fly the plane and it's really cool! There is also Airport and you can take a regular airplane to get to the mainland. Leave a Comment

Perhaps the coolest way to get to Victoria is via the harbor planes (seaplanes) that operate between Vancouver and Victoria. The second time that I went over to Victoria from Vancouver, I took the harbor planes and thought they were so convenient. I just walked down to the Burrard Inlet in Vancouver, hopped onboard the float plane and about 30 minutes later we touched down in Victoria Harbor. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Vancouver Downtown after take-off by mike-tango You want to go from Vancouver to Victoria ? The sky is blue and the sun shines ? 200 CAD is not too expensive for you ? Take a seaplane at Coal Harbour ! 210 CAD (taxes included) to fly from Vancouver to Victoria. The view on Vancouver after take-off is amazing ! To have the better view, take a seat on the left side of the aircraft. You ask the pilot to seat near him : it's the same price ! When flying back from Victoria you will enjoy the view on the Gulf Islands and Mount Baker. A great flight !!! Leave a Comment

Butchart at night by Sandi-2004 No need to rent a car in Victoria unless you are wanting to tour the surrounding area. But to see the downtown, you can easily walk around. And to go to Butchart Gardens and the Butterfly Garden, tour buses leave regularly. The Butterfly Garden is on the way to Butchart, so the bus can just drop you off. The tour buses come by about every 20 minutes, so another one will pick you up and take you on to Butchart. Both places are like a little piece of heaven. We went to these Gardens in the afternoon & evening, had dinner at Butchart in the wonderful dining room. Then, went around the lighted garden a 2nd time at night. Leave a Comment

Waiting for the Ferry. by dabidc There are two main ferry routes to Vancouver island, one from Vancouver, Horseshoe bay to Nanaimo and the other from south of Vancouver at Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay about 40 minutes drive from Victoria. The present schedule is for ferries from each terminus leaving on the hour from 6.00am, the ferries on the odd hour are larger and can accommodate more vehicles. Remember that trucks are also driven on to the ferries. At peak times in the summer you may have to wait for the next ferry. It is also possible to reserve a certain ferry, note you pay extra. An example of the cost for two passengers and a small car is a little over $50.00 Cdn for each ferry journey, the time on the ferry is close to 100 minutes. Snacks are available on the ferries and close to the lines of cars waiting for access to the boats. Leave a Comment

Cruising the islands by kalaika Victoria is well-connected to mainland British Columbia and Washington State by vehicle and passenger ferries and high-speed catamarans. Each day, dozens of ferries cross the straits, granting breathtaking views of the rocky coastline, forested islands, inlets and often marine wildlife. Victoria's arrival points include the Inner Harbour, the Town of Sidney and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (30 minutes from downtown Victoria, near Sidney). The most economical is the BC Ferry from Tsawassen (outside Vancouver) to Swartz Bay. It's under $10.00 for a walk on passenger during peak season and under $40.00 for car and driver. Leave a Comment
