'The 40' adjoining the Trais West Motor Inn

On the day I had the rental car, one of the other guys joined me as we headed out around noon to do a bit of exploring and, while we were at it, decided that we should also try to find somewhere else to eat for once! It was not long before we spotted the interesting looking 'The 40' bar and nightclub, which has been entertaining the locals for years with high quality local, national and international musical talent. The trouble was that it was completely closed at this time of the day! As a result, we settled for the somewhat sterile looking dining room of the adjoining Trails West Motor Inn.

Favorite Dish: I only had a simple Club Sandwich because we were in no mood to linger, wanting to get moving with some exploring while we had the car. The sandwich was so-so, being a little dry for my tastes but at least a Keith's beer from Nova Scotia helped it to slide down.

34th Street Bar & Grill: A very handy Oasis!!

Located within the Victoria Inn, adjoining the front desk area, is the 34th Street Bar & Grill restaurant/bar. It also has direct access to another eating area beside the indoor swimming pool - so you have quite a few choices of a place in which to find a table. By the time we had finished our work for the day, completed the sign out procedures and then arranged for a drive back to the hotel, it was usually approaching 9:30-10 PM in the evening. As a result, after having a quick shower, the small group of us staying at this hotel would usually wander no further than the bar area where we ordered something to eat along with a cold beer or two.

Favorite Dish: Among the items I tried were (from their menu):

Bruschetta - Toasted French bread topped with our fresh tomato, garlic and basil mixture, then drizzled with balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil ($6)

Buffalo Chicken - All the taste of Buffalo wings without the bones! Battered all-white chicken pieces fried and tossed in Buffalo hot sauce. Served with carrots, celery sticks and dip ($10)

6 oz. Certified Angus Beef Sirloin - Certified Angus Beef brand 6 oz. steak seasoned and cooked to perfection. Served with baby new potatoes and brocolli ($15)

Half Rack of BBQ Ribs - Half rack of our best baby back ribs smothered in BBQ sauce and served with choice of potato and fresh vegetable of the day ($16)

Manitoba Walleye - One fillet of fresh Manitoba walleye cooked to perfection and served with white and wild rice pilaf and fresh vegetable of the day ($14)

All the items were quite good but the BBQ Ribs were my favourite, with the Sirloin steak coming in a close second! We also had an excellent full breakfast there on our final morning before heading out onto the TransCanada Highway for the 4-hour drive back to Regina, Saskatchewan.
