    Thompson to Winnipeg

by PeterVancouver Updated Dec 4, 2012

Strange to say but the bus is far faster than the train. The bus route normally leaving Thompson around 10.00pm arrives in Winnipeg a little after 8 in the morning some 9 to 10 hours of travelling. The train however leaves Thompson around 2pm and does not arrive in Winnipeg until around 6pm the following evening, a total of 28 hours

The only thing that can be said about Via Rail is that if you are fortunate enough to have booked a cabin, you are able to get a good nights sleep in the beds provided

What an Underground Mine looks like

by rmdw Written Jun 12, 2003

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Anecdotal evidence tells me that not a large percentage of the general population has ever been in a real underground mine. It's certainly different! I actually enjoy the ambience and subdued light but some people find it very claustrophobic.

This photo was taken of me in 1987. It's actually from the MacLellan Mine near Lynn Lake, Manitoba, but Inco's mines around Thompson look very similar.

The revelation that everyone discovers the first time they go underground is what true blackness is really like! Unlike a dark room or closet, where your eyes eventually adjust to the darkness, when you're underground there is absolutely no light to adjust to! That's why everyone wears a "cap lamp" on their hardhat.
