Five Guys Burgers and Fries: Free peanut

by kemisteryoso Written May 25, 2013

I am not a fan of burgers but i did try this place with friends. They have variety of burgers one could choose from. I tried their vegetable burger of course and I have no complaints. It's bit pricey compared to other burger joint though. I think just get the smallest drink coz the refill is free anyways and save extra bucks. They also have the best cajun fries in town, I have the smallest size and I am glad coz it's huge. This place is really good if you really like having a real burger. The service is also fast and you can snack on all the peanut you want while waiting.

Favorite Dish: vegetable burger with cheese

    Kalan: Filipino breakfast

by kemisteryoso Updated May 25, 2013

If you are craving for some Filipino food this is another option although it's not around downtown.
Filipino breakfast is the best they could offer. It's not a fancy restaurant so everything is just plain and simple.

Favorite Dish: Tapsilog, tosilog and bangsilog

Wild Wings: Best wings but a bit expensive

by kemisteryoso Updated May 22, 2013

The newest wing joint in East Kildonan area. Their wings are great but a bit expensive although bigger in size. Their spicy garpar wings is flavorful, i loved it. The place gets busy every weekend and being a typical smaller sports bar/restaurant you will be standing while waiting for an available table. The place is just okay with me in terms of ambiance and coziness but they have awesome waitresses though the service is a bit slow .

    Favorite Dish: Spicy garpar wings

Smitty's Family Restaurant - Pembina: Wing night with a band

by kemisteryoso Updated May 22, 2013

They renovated this place and it's more cozy now. They added band playing every night. But this is still on trial if it works then they will do it permanently. Like all other Smitty's , their wing night is every Wednesday and Thursday. They have variety of flavors to choose from and they have great and prompt service as well. It also has a sports bar and a restaurant for brunch.

Favorite Dish: electric honey, sweet and spicy, honey garlic wings.

    Famous Daves: Indeed famous

by kemisteryoso Updated May 22, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Newly opened so waiting will be longer becauselots of Winnipegger want to try their different kinds of sauces on their chicken wings or something. The interior reminds me of Fridays. Be careful in some of their spicy sauce. It's really spicy and burned my tongue and sweat a lot.

    Siam Thai: Awesome Thai Food

by kemisteryoso Written May 21, 2013

A little bit far from downtown Winnipeg it's farther south but worth the travel if you are really into delicious Thai Food. It gets busy especially during weekends. And patience is a virtue because you have to wait for t takes time for them to prepare the food. I really don't know why.

India Palace Rstaurant: In Indian made for an English man

by PeterVancouver Updated Nov 27, 2012

A somewhat tacky exterior at night as the restaurant is lit up like a Christmas tree in a whole bunch of coloured lights, however in minus 20C in November you are not keen on standing outside too long.

The interior decor is mid range, maybe a little plastic but functional and typical of many Indian Restaurants.

The food which after all we were there for, is excellent and they have not only a buffet, but also you can choose from an extensive range of Indian food off the menu.

Clearly someone locally is very keen on this place as they booked for Richard Gere to have a meal here details of which are proudly displayed by the owner Mr A K Nagpal and family.

Contrary to some comments, this establishment does have a sizable flat screen TV on during the evening time but it does not take over the place and generally has the sound off

Favorite Dish: Madras curry - something that is probably the most popular in the UK, being mid range spicy and which, for us living in and around Vancouver, is something that, for some odd reason is hard to find on the West Coast. India Palace Beef Madras however, for someone who needs a curry fix at least once a week, is slightly less chilly hot than most I have tasted in England, but the patron offered me a small dish of home made chilly sauce which did the trick. Naturally steamed rice was the other component of this feast and it was well prepared with no lumps and yet was not dry.
    '
Their Samosas were very tasty although not made with the Ismaili thin filo type pastry, but good none the less again with a chili dip.

They appear to have a thriving take out, especially of their Samosas, so if you don’t want to turn out of the hotel in downtown Winnipeg, then get a taxi to pick up from India Palace and bring a take out to you. The full range of dishes are shown on their web site below

Platea Sushi and Korean BBQ: Korean food

by kemisteryoso Written Oct 17, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a house turned into a restaurant along Corydon avenue. The small space made me think that It cant accommodate a crowd of customers hungry for Korean food. I went there one Sunday afternoon and it's not busy.
The place has a typical Korean restaurant environment. They take pride in the aesthetics of their surroundings and presentation of their food. It's quiet and clean.
I love their Yakiudon, beef bulgogi, chicken bulgogi. Try it cheap price and great service. I will go back for their sushi.

    Favorite Dish: Yakiudon

Another Filipino restaurant where you can eat variety of Filipino Dishes. Located beside the Bueno Brothers supermarket which is owned by the same person. Rice is unlimited and free soup.
They have this combo where you could choose 2 viands for 5 dollars. The place is simple with big tv entertainment. A typical fFlipino restaurant. I usually pay a visit whenever I miss Filipino food.

    Buffet Square: Buffet Square

by kemisteryoso Updated Jul 20, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I simple buffet restaurant and a busy one. Far much better than foody goody because of the variety of menu selection. If you want to have seafood on the menu choices be there at night because they only serve seafood during dinner. They serve variety of chicken, beef, BBQ, salads, noodles, fish fillet, japanese food. etc. You can also choose from the variety of their dessert from ice cream, chocolate, pastries, cakes etc. and all of this will be for only 10 CAD during lunch and 14 CAD at dinner. But I don't like the service and the atmosphere.

    Favorite Dish: sushi

During summer you can try the best bubble tea in the city which come on different flavors. My favorite is tarot and buko pandan flavor. It's refreshing. If it happens you passed by Sargent Avenue not far from downtown, try this one. They have specials, real fruit and fruit flavors. Price ranges from 3.95 to 5 CAD.

Favorite Dish: young coconut/pandan and tarot

Kum Koon garden: Kum Koon garden

My Aunt celebrated her birthday here. It is the restaurant popular for its Dimsum. You can choose from the wide selection of dim sum and their Chinese dishes. You can also choose fresh seafood as well for them to cook. You can try their classic dimsum for lunch and their Cantonese specialties for dinner. It's a bit small though especially if some corner of the restaurant was reserved for an event like weddings, birthdays etc . During weekends, expect the place to be packed and a reservation might be in order to prevent you from having to wait in a little room. Its interior is decorated by a veritable freight train of carts crowned with bamboo steamer baskets rolls. It's a bit classy and one of the most expensive in the city. I don't have any problem on their service.

Favorite Dish: chicken feet and shark fin dumpling
