There are 4 gift shops on Campobello Island. We visited this owner-operated shop and found them to have a very good selection of lighthouse items and other souvenirs. We bought a refrigerator magnet, a Christmas ornament and postcards. They accept either Canadian or American dollars, or major credit cards.
There is no distinct shopping area on Campobello Island as far as we could assertain. Campobello Gift House stands alone along Rt. 774, the main highway which traverses the island. It is near Welshpool on the southwestern end of Campobello. Behind the shop are views of beautiful Friar's Bay.
In the course of our island trip, it seemed that the Campobello Island Valufoods store in Welshpool was about the biggest and best. This is probably because it is relatively near the highway bridge to the mainland via Lubec, Maine yet far enough away from that tip of the island that it could be called 'central' for the other communities.
What to buy: After coming up 'dry' on Deer Island, we were pleased to find that this store stocked a good variety of beer, wines and other drinks as well as the usual goods you would expect to find in a supermarket. With only one day and night to spend on Campobello, we kept our purchases down to the minimum of Medium Cheddar cheese, Wheat Thin crackers, bananas, frozen Chicken Wings and bottles of water, beer and wine. We figured that should hold us for one lunch and one dinner before we caught the early morning ferry back to Deer Island.
What to pay: Because this is a Cooperative-type store, the prices were very reasonable.
