Sackville Things to Do

  • by cpm440vee Written Aug 31, 2006

If you're driving along the Trans Canada Highway and need to make a stop at the east side of New Brunswick, pull into Sackville. It's a small little town primarily supported by Mount Allison University.

    Schnitzel Haus Restaurant, Aulac, N.B.

If you're looking for some German cuisine in the Sackville area, the Schnitzel Haus is a good choice. Nicely decorated interior, with large solid wood beams across the ceiling, and a collection of German beer steins and other trinkets around the dining rooms. The community of Aulac is about 10 kms east of Sackville, along the Trans-Canada Hwy (#2).

The food was delicious, even if you have to wait awhile for it. The schnitzels can be served as pork, chicken, or beef, or there are bratwurst options too. There's also standard "Canadian fare", and seafood dishes. Most of the schnitzel dishes will run you between CAD$14.00 - 19.00, before tax.

The food was tasty and the service friendly.

The only complaint I had was with the men's washroom. The soap dispenser was either empty or not working, and the hot air dryer did not work (but there was also a paper towel dispenser).

Favorite Dish: I had the pork Jaegar Schnitzel, for about CAD$ 15.00. It was a large portion served with a red wine sauce, and smothered in sliced mushrooms. Served with German potato salad, and a side of steamed or boiled veggies. Delicious.

A nice, clean place to have Canadian-style Chinese or Vietnamese food. Have eaten here once for lunch.

Favorite Dish: They have a buffet on weekends.
