The Saint John City Market first open in 1876, in the very same building where it still stands today. It is open 6 days a week (closed on Sundays) and offers shoppers a nice variety of local and ethnic food stands, fresh produce, as well as local crafts and souvenirs shops. It is located right next to King's Square so if you happen to be in the area, it's definitely worth checking it out. If you're lucky enough, the man who sells fudge will be sitting at the Germain Street entrance: we got treated to so many samples, we could hardly eat the fudge we actually bought!
The market is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm (5:00 pm on Saturday).
I know that when I was touring Portugal recently, it was great to find free internet cafes in both Aljezur (on the Algarve) and Obidos (a couple of hours north of Lisbon). It really helps if you can check for messages from home once in a while.
As a result of this, I happened to notice this internet cafe close to the waterfront in Saint John as I was walking by. They even had a sign up saying there were special deals for the cruise ship passengers! They seemed to have attracted a few customers.
