Rocky Harbour is a small enclave of activity surrounded by Gros Morne National Park. It serves as the administrative headquarters and also is the main base for tourist accommodations and food. We spent a couple of nights here as the central point for our trips to Western Brook Pond and the Tablelands and found it to be a very pleasant little fishing village. The summer days last until about 10 PM so, after a day of activity, we would usually just enjoy a sunset stroll along the waterfront after our evening meal before we called it a day

At the Pond Rd and the main rd there is a path behind the church.
It takes you to the other end of town by the school. Maybe you will get lucky because there are many rasberries and blackberries bushes. It is a short cut path if you want to move at ease.

Deer Lake got its name from the lake that is right next to it. If you are spending a night in town on your way to other parts of Newfoundland, you can take a walk along the lake. We crossed the Trans-Canada Highway on the Lakeside overpass and ended up walking for over an hour on an unmarked trail that borders the lake and ends up in a residential sector of town where houses seem slightly more upscale than the others closer to the highway.
Just ask the staff at the place you are staying how to get there, they should be able to guide you.

Favorite thing: Deer Lake has a visitor information booth, located on the Trans-Canada Highway. So if you have any needs before moving on your journey, it is wise to stop here.
The Visitor Information Centre is open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. from June to August and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in September and October. Here are other ways to contact the staff:
