Favorite thing: As I was on my first of a number of flights across the Atlantic, the captain came on the intercom and said we were making an emergency landing in Goose Bay, Canada. We were all taken off the plane (it was about 12 AM) and taken by bus to a small building with no windows and little heat. It was rather cold since it was January. After about 3 hours we were put back on the bus, and taken back to the same plane. We boarded and the captain said "We think we have found and fixed the problem". Not the most reassuring words when flying over a large ocean in January. Luckily we did make the flight just fine.
Favorite thing:
Enroute to North West River from Happy Valley - Goose Bay you will see this monument at road side just next to Otter Creek.
It was dedicated in memory of the settlers who first started coming to this area in 1941 to build the Goose Air Base.
Many people started to settle in the area until the military asked them to move to Happy Valley because of this locations proximity to oil tanks that would be built.
Favorite thing:
At the corner of Hamilton River Road and Loring Drive in Happy Valley - Goose Bay you will pass this log chalet type building.
It is the tourist imformation center and it is staffed year round my the Lake Melville Tourism Association.
When in the area please stop in and make sure you have all your questions answered!!
Favorite thing:
Labrador is geographically a very large region and Happy Valley - Goose Bay makes a great staging point to explore some of the other regions.
