If you are exploring the island of Newfoundland you will see Irving locations at different places. I have provided a map of all their locations.
Here you can get gas, use the washroom, buy small amounts of groceries and convenience items.
Also I think the food at the Irving truck stops is great. Personally I really enjoy the breakfast you can get at these locations.
So while your driving about they make a very convenient place to stop. Some places are open 24 hours and some are just gas stations so watch for the ones with a restaurant.

i visited newfoundland at May 2002 - and i fell in love with the place, the people and everything there - so different then everyhting i knew...amazing place -if u in the area- its worth the ferry...
