There is not much to buy in Nain

by crummey Written Aug 7, 2005
    Mr. Naposak builds a dory.

There is not much to buy in Nain because there are only two large stores. They are Northern and Big land Grocery.

There are two debit machines in the community and one shop actually offers cash advances on debit cards.

There is a store that sells beer: Its name is Puffin's Convenience. There are also two other convenience stores.

One of the Fish Plant Buildings at Wharf

In Nain if you want to get some great prices on some of the worlds best seafood you can buy it at the local fish plant at great prices.

Here is a picture of one of the buildings at the local wharf but you will easily find the fish plant.

There is a lot of activity as well in this area of town and a great place to meet some local people.

    Ten Mile Bay Labradorite Quarry

Nain happens to be site of an impressive "Labradorite" quarry. A rare and beautiful mineral. It is used in local crafts and carvings but mainly gets shipped to Italy where it is transformed into the most beautiful furniture the world has to offer!

The site employees many inuit local people and check with the Labrador Inuit Development Corporation for purchases!

    John Terriak: Excellent Carvings!

by jamiesno Written Aug 21, 2003

    John Terriak, Inuit Carver

John Terriak is a world reknown inuit carver located in Nain. His carvings are exceptional and make for excellant souviners! There is no better purchase.

What to buy: I would suggest a whale carving or maybe a polar bear, seal or one of inuit people made from either whale bone, soap stone, marbel or labradorite.

What to pay: It depends on the size of carving you choose but it can range from less than $100 to several thousand.
