Seafood by Redlats Following the rule of "When in Rome, do as the Romans do", we tried to eat seafood for most meals. It is not that easy to have home and local cooked seafood. Between the fishing moritoriums and limited seasons, if you did not go to a higher class restaurant, you often got frozen seafood - not only that, but only deep fried fish with french fries. We did not give up, and after a couple of days, we learned to ask if anything was fresh and could we have it served pan fried. I guess I am not a connoisseur. I could not tell you the difference between haddock and cod and turbot. If you are following our Newfoundland holiday, click here to get back to my Newfoundland page. Leave a Comment Theme: Local

Newfoundland is famous for it's fish & chips so this dish is a must try when you are there. The fish is usually nicely battered, fried and served with lots of chips, vegetables or whipped potato. Sometimes other items such as fried scallops are included as well. Leave a Comment Theme: Seafood

Besides the seafood, the chowders & bisques at Newfoundland are very delicious as well. I managed to try the clam chowder, seafood chowder and king crab bisque at Newfoundland and all of them are very delicious. Also, there are other interesting soups which you can try, including a curry soup which I managed to drink at St John's. Leave a Comment Theme: Local

Fisherman's Landing Restaurant, Newfoundland by victorwkf, 4 more photos The Fisherman's Landing Restaurant is located at the town centre of Rocky Harbour, situated at the famous Gros Morne National Park. The sea is just in front across a small road, and it is next to the Ocean View Motel. This restaurant opens all year round and serves very delicious local seafood, other dishes as well as pizza. I enjoyed having a few meals here and would recommend to those who visit Rocky Harbour. More information on Rocky Harbour is at my VT Woody Point page. Leave a Comment

Jackie's is a must for the locals, so you should definitely stop in here for a bite. Everything is homemade.. the fish and chips are great. It is not open a lot in the winter, but in summer it is open and always busy. Prices go up in the summer, obviously for tourists but it is worth it. Great homemade food. Maybe the ceasar salad will not be as good as the ones in Montreal, but their specialties are fish, chicken and soups... very good. Go there, I think you will like it.
