Wabush and Labrador City are twin mining towns and if you can coordinate it I would recommend a tour of the IOC operation to get a feel for how big it really is and the sort of industry activity that is ongoing there.
I have a travelogue created with many more images from the tour I was fortunate enough to get on.
Patsy Ralph was the community liason person during the time of my visit.

When we finally reached Schafferville after our long flight over the sparsely populated terrain of Labrador, we were taken to see the IOC mining operations in this part of northern Canada. They have dug huge and deep open-pits over the years as the iron ore is extracted to be shipped south over the company railway line to Sept-Isles. In the pits, we also had the chance to see, up close, some of their huge Sicard 120-ton ore hauling trucks! It was quite something to see a machine this big!!
