This museum has everything to do with the 1967 UFO sighting in Shag Harbour. You can view collected memorabilia, watch tv programs about the incident and prehaps even meet a witness! Very interesting!

In shag Harbour about 7 minutes from Barrington you will find the Chapel Hill Museum and Sea Tower. The museum itself is very interesting with lots of local history. On a picture perfect day you can see 5 lighthouses from the Sea tower (the building once served the community as its Baptist Church... you can climb up the tower and see all over the area!
A must-see spot!

In and around Barrington there a a lot of local wharves. My favorite is the Shag Harbour wharf. The fisherman are really friendly and always happy to stop and have a chat with the tourists and maybe if you ask around you could even get a boat ride out of it! The wharf is a very scenic spot, lots of Lobster boats water, and islands :)

On October 4, 1967, local residents of the community saw unusual orange lights in the sky. Most of the witnesses agreed on the number of lights as four. There would be one report from five teenagers who claimed to have seen the orange lights flashing in sequence, shortly before descending toward the icy waters of the harbor.
The Shag Harbour Post Office has a special Alien stamp that you can get on your letters or postcards that you are mailing. It's kinda cool to send a postcard home with such a unique stamp

Object Floats on Water:
Expecting there to be a large splash of water from the impact, they were shocked that the object did not enter the water, but float on top of it. The object was about 1/2 mile from the shoreline. The strange flying object, whatever it was, would occasionally dip into the icy waters, and disappear briefly. At times, it would travel further from the shore, making it difficult to see. Local fishermen, along with Coast Guard boat 101 rushed into the waters to get a closer look, and possibly render aid to injured occupants. When they arrived, the light was gone. The trail of the yellow foam was still visible, however. Finding nothing more, they called off their search at 3:00 AM.
The military had planned a salvage operation, but before they could launch it, a second UFO came to the aid of the first. The Navy decided to take a "wait and see" posture. Also, during this time, Russia sent a submarine into Canadian seas. Evidently they too had monitored the movement of the original object.
Finally, the two underwater UFOs made a break for it. Outracing the Naval ships to the Gulf of Maine, they broke the seas, and sped away into the skies. These details were corroborated by many witnesses, civilian and military, making the mystery of Shag Harbor a mainstay of Ufology, and one of the best documented crash cases of all time.
Today a small gazebo and picnic grounds mark the shoreline looking out to the water where the UFO crashed.
When you are in Barrington go straight through the only set of lights and go 7 minutes until you get to Shag Harbour. From Yarmouth take highway 103 until the Pubnico/Woods Harbour exit on your right,(about 30 minutes) then take a left at gas station and go another half hour to Shag Harbour. When you get to Shag Harbour ask any of the locals they will point you in the right direction, it's not at all hard to find.
