In Sydney there is one casino. It is large and spacious and people seem to enjoy it. This is not a Vegas style casino but is a lot of fun if that's why you're there. It's simply something different to do and is frequented mostly by locals. This could be because the traditional tourist season is relatively short in Cape Breton. I've always found the casino to be a fun part of an evening that included other activities as well.
It is attached to Centre 200 used mostly for hockey but also host to other sports activities and shows.
The offer Blackjack, roulette, poker and slot machines.

Cape Breton is the land of step dancers and fiddlers, especially around Mabou, the home of The Red Shoe Pub. This is where you can enjoy Cape Breton hospitality. The restaurant/pub is opening for the summer on June 1, 2006. Check the on-line schedule to see who's playing when. You can also enjoy some excellent down home pub cooking and some brews. The pub is owned and operated by the Rankin sisters of Rankin Family fame.
Dress Code: Casual.

The sunsets are so spectacular at Cape Breton, you will hardly miss that there are no real hot nightspots to have a beer or go dancing. The picnic pullouts offer a great place to not only eat but also have a discreet beer or glass of wine though you will need a plastic cup as alcohol is prohibited. This is Trout Brook not long after we finished up the pasta.
Dress Code: As warm as it might be during the day, in late September, you will need some warm clothing once the sun goes down. So, bring a nice hat, a sweater wind proof jacket too.

When in Sydney, if you want to find all the people, head for Casino Nova Scotia. The casino is one of two in NS. The larger one is in Halifax. This casino is pretty classy and very fun. It's no Vegas but it's pretty impressive for our little city.
First thing to do is sign up for a Player's Club Card, even if you never use it again. You get all kinds of coupons and things for signing up and it can be used for discounts at other establishments in the city.
The drinks at the casino are the cheapest you'll find and the food is wonderful. In fact, the All Star Grille is one of my favourite restaurants on the island. There's also a coffee shop and Millionaire's Lounge, which provides lots of free entertainment.
The best thing about the casino is the hours. It is typically open very late and seasonally has 24hr service. Take advantage of the free coat check because you want to gamble in comfort. As for gambling, there is a large variety of slot machines, a roulette table, blackjack, and a couple of types of poker. There's even a high rollers section.
The casino offers stay and play packages for those who like to gamble in conjunction with the Cambrige Suites.
Dress Code: There is no dress code for the casino. If you are planning on being a high roller, however, you may wish to dress the part.
