autumn colors starting to fade by arasnosliw Nova Scotia draws herds of tourists during the summer, primarily because the weather is beautiful at that time of year. I opted to come here in Autumn, one because I was not in North America over the summer, and two because I figured it was the perfect time to visit and see the fall foliage. I was just a week or so late, the leaves had started to fall already. Yet I couldn't have asked for a better time to visit. The beautiful fall colors in Atlantic Canada are a must-see. Although a bit chilly at this time of year, it's also quite nice because the lack of visitors drive tourist costs down. Leave a Comment

almost good enough to eat by arasnosliw Quite a number of houses in Lunenburg have this architectural style that locals refer to as "Gingerbread" house style. The local Lunenburg Academy is one example of this unique architecture. This house located on Pelham Street in Old Town Lunenburg is another example of this Gingerbread style. Leave a Comment

small island off coast of Nova Scotia by arasnosliw Drive along the many coastal highways in Nova Scotia. They are extremely scenic and you'll be able to stop by small fishing villages. There's an innumerable amount of small islands just off the coast. Some inhabited, while others are just barely big enough to fit a few people on. Leave a Comment

The monster by arasnosliw Unlike the scarecrows I saw....I must say that "Juan the Hurricane Monster" in Mahone Bay is a bit more intimidating. Hurricane Juan did some extensive damage on Nova Scotia in September of 2003. I guess this local created this monster in attempts of scaring any future storms away ;-)> Leave a Comment

you're not scaring me! by arasnosliw When I arrived in Mahone Bay, I was a bit taken back by the amount of clown-looking stuffed creatures all over the entire town. I figured they were decorations for Halloween, just about a week away. I came to learn that Mahone Bay is home to a huge scarecrow festival in which the locals design creatively. Sorry, if I were a bird, many of these scarecrows would not frighten me. Although very well-done, many are more clown-like in nature than scarecrow-like. Leave a Comment

Acadians being deported by frankcanfly The peaceful Acadians were expelled from the region by the British in 1755. This painting is part of a series on display at Grand Pre, depicting the expulsion.
Acadians were dispersed all over the Atlantic. The largest group went to the French Mississippi tidal waters, and later became known as "Cajuns" Leave a Comment

fresh catch by arasnosliw ....watching the local fisherman bring in his daily catch. Speaking of catch, the seafood in NS is delicious. Make sure and try some mussels and scallops, and if you want to splurge go for the lobster. Leave a Comment
